Wink
bo$$ late model

-The blue 73 is not from the Bo$$ it was from Jean-Philippe Bernard (Mike had already spoken about him and his cars in a previous post)

-The white 412 with cookies next to my ex-69 KG was from Luc. The 62 on the other side is, as previously mentionned, from Laurent Dejeaive.

-The 72 orange standard 1200 on page 6 is not from Alain, it was from Freddy (who now has a blue 59 with Fusch), from which i bought it and later sold to Chris who is now a DAS member.

pic when she was mine :

i found some old pics (scanned):
my then-girlfriend 72 1302 next to my 69 KG

and from the off-road division:

It's about time!!  Nice job, Tero.  Cool Cool Cool  Now, how about some club "stories"  Wink

So, some of you asked about club stories….
I don’t know which « stories » you expect but I have one « à la Bullitt » movie…sort of...

Back in the end of the 90’s, some guys of the club rented a garage to work on their cars…
To make a long story short, some thieves broke into and stole a 66 panel split bus (double sliding doors), some working tools and beetle parts, some of which came from South Africa.
There had been a lot of thefts at this time in the VW scene, and all the signs were showing that the thieves would have come from the Charleroi area (Charleroi is a former mining town  with big poverty and a bad reputation, 70km south of Waterloo).

One of our friends knew someone who lived in this town (he was a respectable citizen) and was in the VW scene. We went to meet him and he showed us where some well-known bad guys were storing their cars and had their garages.
During one of our investigation trip we met the bad guys in question in one of their garage, we talked to them pretending being looking for beetle parts to buy, during the conversation, we noticed that some boxes in the garage were from South Africa (the solen parts!!) and the chrome 356 wheels that were on the stolen panel . Shocked
We left politely and we went to the police to report the fact…

A week later, the police called us to tell that we were asked to go to the thieves’s garage to pick our stolen parts….
Pat took his split window bus (lowered with Empi 5 wheels 135 front /185rear, 1600cc DP with a 32/36 Weber) and with Mike we went to meet the police and recover some of our parts.
All three sitting on the front bench seat, the parts being stored in the bus, it was an heavy load…..

We were just leaving the place when I noticed a yellow Type 3 fastback with Borbet wheels and a ragtop,…… one of the thieve‘s car!! , coming the opposite way….Pat made a quick U-turn and started to follow the Fastback.
The fastback being chased by a split bus began to accelerate faster and faster in the narrow streets of Charleroi, so do Pat he also accelerated, this pursuit is still in my mind,….. doing 60MPH in streets where you couldn’t cross another car coming opposite, taking 90° turns at fast speed on 135 tyres (the edge of the Empi were marked ! ), burning red lights,…..the guy was really trying to escape....At one point the guy tried to join a main road but he was stuck because of the traffic, Pat had managed to place the bus on the left side of the fastback and I began to furiously open the split door into the fastback side, 3 or 4 times,….the traffic moved, he managed to overtake and we followed him as he get on the small Charleroi’s ring where his fastback took the advantage on the split….he tried to fool us by pretending staying on the ring just before leaving to an exit but his ruse failed.
We followed him in the exit, he burned again some red lights and stopped in front of ….. …a police building…..he ran into it and pretended to be persecuted by us.
We explained the story at the officer who listened to him and us …..he unfortunately had to let the guy go as he had no charges against him…..

This is were Pat told the thieve that he had not heard the last from the Waterloo’s guys !!

We had recovered some parts, some tools, the split 356 wheels, ……the right side door of Pat bus had yellow paint on the edge, the front Empi rims were marked, and the brake pedal was bent……but what a pursuit !!

We were three friends, we were the DAS founders, we had lived a memorable adventure….
.....but that‘s not the end of the story…… Wink

next chapter on his way : fast food rodeo...

It was not the end…..
So you remember that Pat told the thief that we were from Waterloo,  „You haven’t heard the last from the Waterloo’s guys !!“

Some week later my mother told me that 2 guys went to her home pretending to be police officers and asking for a guy named Pat (my parents home was well known in the neighborood to be a beetle place).
But she though that the 2 guys were too weird to really be police officers, so she asked them their police card….they told her that they had left them in their car and left to pick them…..they never went back !

A week later we were at our fast food Friday cruising night (it was around winter so we were inside the fast food).
At a given time , I went out with my then-girlfriend to escort her to his car on the  parking when I saw a black Nissan Micra (waouh exotic!) with 2 guys and a girl inside. This was one of the thieve‘s car !

I turned around and came back inside the fast food to alert everybody….we decided to go outside to see what they wanted ! (and catch them if possible!)
We went out around, we were around 10 guys, …the Nissan had moved a little far away on the parking….we went to her direction with the idea of surrounding the car…
This is when they started the engine and drove into our direction….they really tried to crush us …they could have escaped but not they charged us with the car….
I had a snap hook as key holder, I threw it on their car and broke a rear glass….
Another guy put a coin into a trolley and charged the Nissan with it ( courageaous guy !)… Roll Eyes
Another one went to his car ‘s trunk to take a tool and he threw it in the side panel of the car…
Jojo (RIP) had no better idea than to stand in front of the car and jump on the hood (like in the movies!!) holding at the wipers….but he didn’t last long and felt (unharmed)… Shocked
With all the noise people were going out from all the restaurants and shops around…girls were crying and screaming (as always), …..

It was a big mess….finally the guys left and a few minutes later the police arrived but didn’t managed to catch them…..

We learned later by our friend in Charleroi that he had seen the Micra and it was in very bad condition (in fact it was the car of the thief grirlfriend !! ahahah)…

We "recovered" the Split panel in a Belgian aircooled VW shop, the owner had bought it to the thieves (supposedly without knowing the fact that it was stolen….while the fact had been well related in the VW scene!!) , he didn’t wanted to give it back witout money in exchange, so it stayed (and is still) under a car port with a leaking roof, and is now rusted and in very bad shape !!

I could have told you about some more stories related to this affair, but I prefer to do not .... Tongue
Just to say that the thieves did not emerged unscathed.... Grin

The end…..
