I thought I would start a seperate thread just for my little SPG crank - Gary has done some very very nice work  Smiley

You can see the 6 sections that make up the crank its self and where Gary had to drill out the Old index pins, These pin's where NOT fitted from new but alot of people "pinned" them back in the day to prevent twisting but they would often still twist Shocked

Gary has done ALOT of R&D on these cranks and now uses a new style pin, the crank will also be welded to fully eliminate twisting, He has also come up with new roller bearings for the rods and he has a few more tricks to prevent the rods breaking

It is being balanced and wedgemated today and I should have some more pic's in a few days.

My crank had thrown a flywheel at some point in its life and the end section was basiclly scrap  Sad But not to worry Gary has new sections "in-stock" Shocked

Here's my new end section ready to be wedgemated  Smiley

Hey Lee,
I am using an 82mm SPG in my GTV motor.
It was welded and pinned before it left Empi years ago.
The Empi SPG actually had different connecting rods than the other SPG's.
They were narrower to fit in the 88mm Empi "Slipper Skirt" pistons.

It gets pressed together WITHOUT the rods - Balanced - Pressed apart AGAIN then it has the BALANCED rods/bearing fitted, Time consuming but well worth it  Smiley

I don't know dude I leave that kinda thing to the experts - as I said gary has ALOT of experience rebuilding these cranks and I trust his judgement  Smiley

FYI, the pins used to "pin" the SPG's were actually flywheel location pins !

them old things, ive got one on the shelf, I dont like the Idea of them, much prefer and little weight on the flywheel as to help save the SPG's..
