What brand of piston? usually they tell you what clearance to run with the pistons and every manufacturer has its own specs

Hi henri,

I think you can use some more clearance for the pistons.

on my 103mm bore with SRP pistons, I will run a 0.10mm clearance  Wink

Hoping to get 4500 rpm stall speed out of it.
will be ready next week .
No i am going to open the engine for a piston and longer cranck  transplant.
I am happy that i decided to go back to turbo
Got my motivation back .

After finish my friends type 4 1.7 engine and its a nice engine.
The engine stand is free for my own engine and going on with the build.
First i did the oil ring mod on the pump.
As the press was not wat it ment to be when hot
placed an oil ring from a ford dsg tranny .
The ring is verry soft and had a good seal .se if it helps.

I have found some time to work on the car again
i put the longer stroke cranck in the engine .
Sealed the oilpump and lots more .
I made an torque plate to stresshone the cilinders for more wall clearance.
when i have them back comming week i can finish the engine and build it in the car Next step is to get the plumbing for the
Turbo lines and charge cooler.
A friend is comming to help me out with the wiring for the engine manegment system
So hopfully i have a running car this season.

and then it was time to build the engine and also make al the fittings and sensors for the efi
I got hold of a set 600 cc injectors that wil feed the engine
i have to make a custom fuelrails for it that i am working on right now
So when thats finish i can put the engine back in the car and hopefully get my mot
The first few hundered km or so i will drive it whitout the turbo
Just N/a to see if everything is working correct .

Hi I got my modified torque converter back .
and i hope that the stalspeed is around 4000 rpm now
Stallspeed wil say that i canput the enginebrake on and load the engine till 4000 on launch
and not much happend until i let go the launch  button
Then the engine rpm wil rise and above the 4000 the converter will hook on and
passing its multible torque to the gearbox factor 2:1  Shocked
Thats why it can be verry effective
Inside my torque converter are manny parts that are upgraded and midified from a porsche unit
Like needle bearings welded and hardened vanes polished and machined stator and  turbine and an enlarged on way clutch
And its also made lighter .
The engine is also back in the car and it al fits wel til now
lets see i can let this baby launch hard in the future .
Thats the first goal ,speed is a later issue.
Converter stall is also termided by engine torque as i dont know the engine torque yet
it will be a gues now .
If its way of we have to open it again and do some mods until its rigth on the spot.
so no charge yet.

till now

Hi i got the engine fired up this weekend .
I hooked up an old weber at the efi intake and made an downflow fueltank that i put on the roof .
put a point distrubitor in it .
and it fired right up .
It runs nice no more smoke and no funny noises and good oil pressure ,the converter is working to .
A buddy of my picked up the ecu he is gonna do the wiring and in 3 weeks its finished.
Now i can realy get it finished ,got a running car at last
if everything goes wel i wil bring it to bitburg this year to do some test runs
Just to see if its getting of the line and run straigth.
and ofcourse to make it reliable so that i can run it all day long in normal traffic.

Amazing work!

so does the clutch hook up at 4k rpm? meaning anything less is slips? how does that work out with normal driving?

Hi Andy
In theory it will hook at that rpm range
But it isnt freewheeling also .
It wil push the car forward thats why it wil need a transbrake
That stops the input and output shaft  from turning
And the engine needs to be strong enough to overcome the resistant of the tc
So it has more slip than stock
But still good street drivebilety  i hope .

I had a beetle with turbo engine and automatic.
The Munsinger torque converter would lock up at above 5000 rpm.
It sounded sick when drag racing. People told me something was wrong. But no. Fully normal for that setup.
On the street, it was smooth and nice.
Fuel economy.....not that I noticed but I guess she was pretty thirsty.

ahhh i got it, so in theory when you floor it from the line with a brake on it should be fully engaged till 4k. sounds cool!

Here you go Andy, a really quick run-down on the different options.......
http://allfast.com.au/HighPerformance/HiStalls/tabid/860/Default.aspx
......and in addition to a blown Doorslammer with a converter and auto, Gonzo also has a 14sec yellow buggy that he insists on abusing the crap out of for over 20 years, so it's even legal on a VW forum!  Wink
