ok guys help me out here...

As we know european spec beetles had semaphores up to the very late 50´s. In other words no turning signals on the front fenders.
Traditional cal-look as I see it replaces the og turning signals with lucas etc. Or in very rare occasions keeps the og signals and color codes the housing.  Wink
If you dechrome a car with no og turn signals, what would look good? Keep the horn grilles? Color code them? Or fill the hole and run a smooth fender?

But would you mount turn signals on a semaphore beetle?

No. I'd shave the fenders clean of the horn grilles.

A friend of mine had a '59 semaphore car that he filled the horn grilles and installed Lucas lights. The car was in the USA anyway so the semaphores were more of a novelty item... everybody seemed to like it.

The car still had '59 tail lights, and the importer added USA style front turn sig's on top of the fender, which were later removed. Oh yeah, the car had the correct USA model turn signal switch installed so the stop / turn lights would work right.
We wired the semaphores to a three way toggle switch.

I'll be building an Oval semaphore Baja the same way soon.

Fabs, I am aware of those cars, the point is what to do if you have a SEMAPHORE car. Would you install lucas anyway? And weld shut the semaphore holes?  Huh Wink

It really boils down to personal taste. If I had a semaphore car I would not add signals in the front and would keep the semaphores. Sometimes I like the look of no horn grilles and other times I dont. They are a nice detail that breaks up the fender in a plain area. This really depends on the car and its color as well.

+1 for the win. I agree with Lawrence.

Yep, I'm doing the same on my Oval, Lucas indicators, semaphores and making the rear lights blink too.

I want to keep the semaphores as I think they're just cool and I like the look of the Lucas indicators in the front wings, but along with the rear lights, they're probably more visible for other road users. I don't want someone crashing into my pride and joy because they didn't see the little amber light poking out of the door pillar.

Just have to make it all work at once as I can't be bothered with having extra toggle switches all over the place.
