Beautiful car!
That is a real beauty! Kind of "3-dimensional 1970s spirit"-simple and tasteful!

I built it for a customer 18 years ago , it's done about 100 miles since , as he works abroad and never drives it , it has a panelled dash , and would be ripe for some 70's treatment .
I am trying to nick it from him for a cheap price , then was going to put some gauges in the dash ( 70's style ) , get some 70's seats , change the decklid and valence back to 72 spec . I wasn't sure whether to fit upright headlight back onto the car , as I really like the look of the ' Rossi's '
I would make for a good 70's looker though , the car is still very solid , and hasn't deteriorated as it's been in a dry garage scince built .
IDA motor , close tranny ...
It's either that , or I try and find a mint 1303 and build a replica of John Dean's super clean 1303 ....

Either way Peter, your are heading for two VERY cool ideas here!
I have had the same idea as I have a 03 cabrio stashed away, but I'im unsure it would respond well to the super dumper look.
Keith I'd wish you built a late model looker, as It would pave the way for these cars into the mind of the average looker builder. Some seem to think they are "wrong"

Some of the late 70's and early 80's cars's , look mighty fine to me , as long as they were done tastfully

John Dean's super clean 1303 ....
This one is extremely nice for a 1303!! I was just talking about yesterday
But yeah, the real challenge is building a nice, tasteful, and tough late model looker! It will show that it is not necessary to do those darn early fender conversion that always look shite in my opinion, but to respect the era of your late looker and make good use out of it.
In particular Keith, i think you are a role model for others... You inspire and educate people (certainly of my generation) and i reckon for that reason it may be a very nice change to step away from the crowd and get challenged by a late model project. Think of what a successful outcome may put into motion!
Anyway, this thread is getting a lot of reactions and views but not much response from you
have you made up your mind yet?

... what should it be?
Several house moves, change of domestic circumstance (oops...) and new old house project have meant no time or money to have something interesting around, other than the odd Porsche. So, when the house is done, and I also have a garage, what should I build? Race car, Looker, vintage (DON'T say Bus!!!) or??? Type 1? Type 3? What style? You guys know me, or some of you do, so come on, give me some ideas!
Hey Keath, how is it goin?
long time no see
Not sure if you've seen my 67 for sale, why don't you save yourself the bother and all the waiting? and just buy my 67? you can even buy you old engine back out of flashback if you want...
Due to the move to the US, I've now decided that I'm going to sell your old engine, the 5 speed, BRMs... everything... do you know anyone?
Keep in touch

Maybe something with no fenders... Hairpins and I beam, 3 pedals and a nailhead.
Are we seeing a trend?

So after the "what is a street car" and the "what is a Cal-look" we can now move on to the "What is a Hot Rod"
.....................One thing remains thou. I guess a Hot Rod with a type 4 engine is not allowed as usual!!
