What`s the problem? Low or really low CR?  Smiley Big heads, big cam and mild comp does not sound right.

OK, so maybe the cam wasn't the only thing I am gonna  get stick about  Roll Eyes

I am always open to advice, but bearing in mind it is a fairly fat car I still want to be able to drive on the street, what would your ideal CR be then Huh

It depends on a lot of things like fuel, cam, heat, heads etc etc. The FK87 is a great cam and mild on the valvetrain which is good since you plan on driving it. Lot`s of guys use it with succes on the street with a CR around 11.

OK, thats interesting thanks BB.  It will probably be running on super, with the internals as already stated.  I don't run an external oil cooler, but do run a remote filter and deep sump.  Currently runs (with FK8 and super D 40x37 heads) a CR of 8.0:1 as was originally destined for a bus.  The temp gauge barely gets off the bottom at the moment, so I'm guessing it can take a bit more heat.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

10:1 cr with the ultra mags (44x37) and the Idas will wake your combo up nicely. Just you wait and see! This will bring your spec to pretty much the same as Lee C's and his Oval honks! With all the work done to the tinware regarding cooling, I will be surprised if excessive heat will be an issue. I based Lee's motor on a John Maher motor I used to own and that motor was killer on the street and never suffered any heat related issues. If it's good enough for JMR, I figure you can't go too far wrong. The Maher motor made 194 bhp sans belt, so it's a potent street/strip combo...

Here's a couple of shots of Gyles' new setup. Gone a bit more oldshool with IDAs and Bosch 010 and not a billet piece of crap in sight...
