Hey Bruce, it was good to meet you today at the Vintage VW meet and I DID see your car. That is a great color!
It was good to meet you too!  Glad you found my car.  Sure looks glossy with a fresh coat of wax don't it?

Hey Zach, on the 2hr drive to the vintage show in Seattle today with my short geared Mexican Beetle, I was thinking about those 175SR15s, and how much I wish I could find a fresh pair.  Then while walking around the swap meet I saw a pair!  And they had some 145s to go with them.  Ding!  Hi Marc.  Smiley

It's amazing how someone (you, Bruce) knew who I was... simply because of the tires. I was surprised and impressed.

It should be mentioned here that I still don't know if I will be keeping or selling them. When loading the SUV with swap meet stuff, I had the room so tossed in the tires.
If someone had offered me more money than I think they are worth, that would have made my decision for me.
It was interesting on how many people know their tires though as I got many comments on how rare and what a great tire they are/were. Hardly anyone asked the price, they only wanted to talk about them. Cry

I need a rolling pan when I pick up the body from paint, so I need to buy tires, use these, or borrow wheels/tires soon. I don't feel comfortable using tires that are 25 years old but have thought of mounting them on the real BRMs for car shows and buying a new set, mounting them on a set of fake BRMs for everyday use. I'm leaning toward new tires on real BRMs and just devote my life to constand polishing and staying away from pot holes.  Huh

I have several people who expressed interest on buying the tires (Zach is the first) but money and the possible safety concerns have not been discussed yet.

After a 30 year absence, (about), from the Bug In's ....look for the return of DRA in 2011.  Featuring the legendary Split Window of Marc Buehler in its newly restored condition, and the not so legendary, (but at least it's green), Karmann Ghia of Ed Craig.

There Marc...now it's semi offical  You have a schedule to keep.  ;-)

And you now have a schedule to keep also, Ed... Grin
I think if you have someone weld in a split window on your ghia, that would definitely make it legendary!!
(I like"legendary")

Thanks, Marc. I've got 145/165 XZX's on the car now, but I really want something a tiny bit wider & taller. I promise that I wont sue anyone in the event of a tire failure! Wink Let me know, no rush Smiley

then waited for them to finish spraying colored bed liner to the inside of the fenders and bolt them on

The car back at my shop. Believe me,  these pictures don't do the color justice.

It's getting late and so the car is rolled into the shop

I believe this weekend, the Chevy will be moved to the other side of the shop and the '51 will take the "throne"
I love the paint and am pretty excited to actually put it together.

The  photos are awesome, it is great to see such a historic car so close to completion. As for the fake vs real, old tire new tire dilema. I would get set set of the new Flat 4 Berm's & new tires to drive around. As much as I like my mag Brm's, the stress factor & maint. goes up tenfold when they are on the car. When I have my Flat 4's on I can drive & have fun.  Just a thought.   Car looks bitchen'   Bill

I'm not usually a fan of red beetles but that is just beautiful!
What's the paint code or is it a secret?
Well done .... You must be stoked.
