THE MEXICAN RACER!
«

HOLA AMIGOS!
we are starting our race car proyect, but we have a lot of questions about doing it right
first of all this is the shell, a 1963 bug.
this bug was hit in the front so we bought the front clip trying to fix it and restored, but we decided to cut the whole thing again and use a fiber glass front..
and this is the floor pan
the first thing that we want to do is to raise the transmision. so here is our first answer:
how many inches can be raised?
i saw the mounts from ron lummus and a.j. sims and they only raise 1" is that o.k. or we can raised more than that? beacuse we are thinking in 3 inches.
thanks for take your time to read this and we apreciate all your help
jose luis
p.s. sorry for my english, i'm not that good

Jose Luis bienvenido en el forum de vocho europeo
About the raising of the tranny,3 inches can be done but the shifting rod needs to be taken out of the tunnel and fixed on the tunnel, you also have to raise the part where the shifter will come becoz of the raise.
What is you intention with teh car, pure dragracing?
Succes with the car amigo i si tienes preguntas estas en bien manos aqui

It is a lot of work!
Here are some pictures that I have saved on my computer that shows how it is done. I am not sure who has taken the pictures or who the owner is.
Ron Lummus showed some on the Monster garage TV-Series:
It can be found here:

muchas gracias por tu respuesta!
well, we want to make this car the best way possible but understanding that we are not millionares
we are been thinking about buying a set of solid mounts (empi, bugpack ones) and weld some extra material, so the tranny can be raised..
is this idea fine or not? it will work?
thanks amigos!

Hey Luis!!!
Use a Bus nose cone on the bug trans, and raise the trans up until the shift rod lines up. Should be about 2". Modify (raise) a rear solid mount, make a mid mount, and chop the nose cone mount off the torsoin housing.

wat's up zack!
nice tips bro, we allready did the mounts thing, like mi brother martin said, the mounts are 3'' raised now.
here are somo photos of today's labor on our turbo proyect
we cut the e-brake holder
we cut this area to raise the clutch and gas pedal cables
and also we start working on the body
we are going to cut the rear clip
preparing the area to be cut
amigos, do you think that is o.k. for our proyect to cut 3" per side of the torsion bars housing? i mean the same way that ron lummus cut the one of the split window.
saludos!!!
