Hi!
After hangin around as a guest for a long time now introducing my own project! First of all something about me and the history of my car:
My name is Wesley Joosten aka Wez,
I'm a 20 (allmost 21) year old student and musician from the Netherlands.
But that's just the boring part...
Here comes the better part!
My car:
Model 1200 spärkäfer(economy) built in 1967 pre aug. One year only as you probably know. White with red interior.
Still original and complete when I got it three years ago. I was looking for a VW for allmost a year allready when I saw this one on the internet for sale.
My grandpa and my dad restored a 1302 convertible when I was really young so I guess it all started then...
My grandpa was allways looking on the internet together with me. When I emailed this car he called the owner. We made an appointment to go take a look at the car.
When I was looking at it as a 17 y.o boy my grandpa allready bought it for me as a suprise... So here the story really starts! Got my first car
It was standing outside for allmost 14 years but was in a pretty good shape.
All brakes where locked but we got it moving and took it home next week...
and after a good cleaning it was white again instead of brown/green and growing.
The target was to get it fixed up and running before I got my licence so we started working in the weekends. Me and my grandpa.
We got the engine running, renewed the complete braking system. But whe had little time and as we all know, the more you work on a car the more parts you'll find that are broken, damaged or missing.
And then...
Big set-back... My grandpa got a tumor in his brains. While he was fighting in hospital I was fighting to get the car ready. They couldn't help him anymore and my knowledge about cars was not enough to finish it on my own. During my long visits in hospital we allways spoke about the car. It was the only thing he still recognized.
I got help from a vw shop with my car and that guy did all the welding and we got it up and running. One last cleaning job and my mom drove it in fornt of the hospital so my grandpa could see it. Mission one: completed.
I turned 18 'bout 2 moths before that and started with my license. My grandpa was doing worse every day. I got my license and told him, we cheered together and the day after he died...
He learned me so much. Helped me with everything and was my walking repair manuel. This car is really special and is staying for ever!
But hey, live goes on!
After driving it for a while i wanted to change it more my style:
I lowered the front and bought a roofrack:
even found more stuff
Drove around, changed my mind, sold the stuff and bought some new. This was the result after 9 months:
Then I realised a 18 yo boy shouldn't be driving a origional looking car...
Got rid of the Whitewalls. dropped the front even more:
drove around for a while again..bought a different exhaust. new rear tires..
and drove around like this until I broke my front axel
I decided I wanted a complete restauration. The car was showing some nasty rust. I started taking it apart on dec 22, 2007
Now, may 7th '09 i'm still working on it. Not making any money and beeing a student doesn't really help but i'm getting there.
