Stringing wires from the dash to the engine bay...tips/tricks?

Got my tach bolted up this weekend (pics to follow later) and now need to wire it up. Just curious as to how folks recommend routing the wiring from the dash back to the engine bay, as I'd like to redo my wiring for my gauges too. It's a '70 Bug we're speaking of here, and by no means a show car... I'd just like to keep the wiring as concealed and neat as possible
Thanks in advance.

I like using a Trailer Wire Harness it is 25ft.long 4 Wire and is flat (wire colors are White, brown, green, and yellow) and it lays down easy under the carpet or mats plus all your wires are together for other gauges

Where do you route it in terms of getting it back to the engine bay, and how do you do so? The original harness goes beneath the driver's heater channel and back through the quarter panel and driver's rear fenderwell.. just looking on how to feed 'er through...

I removed LH rear door panel, got a wire coat hanger, taped harness to hanger, then pushed it through from LR rear panel area to engine compartment. To get wiring to rear LR panel area, I ran it under carpet by LH door sill.

Patiently and
carefully
run a straightened coat hanger through as a fish. When you have it through, tape the wire(s) you want back there to it securely, and pull it through. Carefully. Make certain the metal does not have a sharp end.

On 67 and Later I run it right along side the Original Loom it will exit in the upper rear corner of the engine compartment, on 66 and older I run it thew the A Pillar along the driver side roof Channel it exits in the same Place in the rear.

X2. You can find them at Walmart and Fred Meyer's for about $6.00

Thanks so much for the helpful hints, guys. Another question, how do you route your grounds for the gauges (both lights and the gauges themselves)? I've got multiple wires sharing grounds under the hood, just looking to find a cleaner approach...

Routed a trailer hitch harness trough the roof channel on a ´58 the other day. Works excellent. Always clever to have a couple of spare wires.

i'd like to know this too!
and what's a trailer hitch harness?
sorry for the question, but how come the -66 and 67- difference? i was going to run it through the roof channel as it'll come out pretty close to the correct spots (engine and dash)...
