Does Anyone Run a After-Market "Windich Tray" In the High Hp Vw engine?
Or are they not really worth it?
Iv heard that a "Windich Tray" is built into a type-1 case anyway, but was just wondering if anyone could shed anymore light on the subject?
cheers

I actually have one that I got in a trade a long time ago. I never used it. Heard they can cause oil starvation and don't work that well. I used to use windage pushrod tubes from CB. They I believe worked pretty well. Just run a big sump, that works.

I tried to use one when I was 16 and it did not clear the cam.

I've got one in my 2919 -- keeps the oil from the crank and helps it from "foaming"
V8's say it worth about 1% HP gain by keeping the crank from having to slice through the oil

Toss it!
I tried one years ago and the only thing it did was break loose and rattle a lot.
I've built scores of high performance VW engines and what has always worked for me is to
use a sump and run your oil level a bit low on the dipstick to keep the crank out of the oil and churning through it.

Wow, people still make windage trays?
Haven't heard that word in 25 years. Thought they left with the early '80s. Never used one and don't really plan to. But... to each their own.
