Well it's been a few years since I had my 56 on the street, I blew the diff a few years ago and parked it while I enjoyed my other VW's. A couple of months ago I pulled the trans and sent it ovet to Terry H (our local Trans builder) While the Oval was sitting there i though it could use a quick freshing up.... that turend into a bigger job than I thought Shocked I just wanted to thank some of our club members for all their hard work, Gary came thru and installed the headliner and interior while Darren K freshened up the motor and Cam..... well i had him machining things left right and center!

Anyway the old Coral car is a thing of the past... Heres a few shot from todays first drive!

Had to borrow a crusty exhasut while I wait for the new one...yuk! but it got me rolling

Thanks for all your help!

It was a great feeling going thru the gears again

Geoff,

Don't tell me those are the real deal for wheels? They have the old pre-polished and pre-BRM finger look. :-)

I love the "crusty" Exhaust, think it gives it that original cal-look "look" with those BRMs, as if its been in a barn since the 60's and's just had a wash and taken on the road again, loving it!  Cool

Sorry for the re-posted pic... but I really admire images that are truly timeless.

And this is one of those images. Seriously, it's rather difficult to tell what year this was taken.

Geoff, your Oval is spot-on!

I really like the steering wheel and eyebrow "W" decklid... I've been thinking about doing that to a W decklid for years and now I see the results... perfect!

The "secret aged magnesium formula" works like a charm...

Seeing cars like yours helps inspire me to finish my own Oval.

Thanks,

Dave

That was the plan, not to show it(as it's just a street strip car and the fenders and deck lid need to be repainted) but more to support the other two club cars going down. Had a hell of a week with lots to do other than VW stuff and last night a washer fell into the engine...long story but 3 hours later it's out and went back together this morning BUT those 3 ++++ hours and a early meeting ate into my time bad.

Don't think i'll be bringing it Cry

Geoff, that car looks PERFECT. I'd swear it's from one of those DRF pics floating around of a similar car crusing in the mud out in Palm Springs desert. Hope to see it soon.

Here's a shot of the wheels as the  "secret aged magnesium formula" was applied. Far right, fresh out of the Sand blaster, Center after texture was added and first coat of Magnesium, Left, after a few coats.... later the spokes were frosted white with chemicals but I later went with the dark magnesium spoke and lip.

I still have a little more work on them but it's getting close.
