Hi guys,

My car has a '64 transaxle. Can I convert the throwout bearing to a later model type by just drilling 3 holes and tapping them for the guide? What else do I need apart from the guide and throwout bearing, is the arm also different?

Thanks

Jesse

You can buy a guide sleeve that doesn't need drilling

you will also need a 71-72 clutch arm and a late throwout bearing

Should be a nice item but they don't sell it in shops here in the Netherlands. Drilling and tapping is possible or not?

Hi Jesse the early trans case is not flat for the sleeve to be bolted to a late trans has a flat boss cast to the trans with three threaded holes if you drill your early trans the case has no built in boss so the sleeve would not sit flat and the studs would pull out because the is less then a 1/4 inch thickness in the trans case  where you would have to drill the best way around it is use a late trans case when you break your trans with your new motor lol Grin Grin Grin

i've always had to stick them in the freezer to get them to fit, even then it required some 'persuasion' only problem i had was some bearings are too tight on the sleeve Smiley
