D.B.O. Not a club; a state of mind.

« on: June 15, 2009, 16:51:22 pm »

Brought to you by DEEKvision™.

At 1030hrs (that's 10:30am for the uninitiated), this is what the parking lot at Nick's and a box of new D.K.K. shirts looked like.

After enjoying a black tea and a hearty breakfast burrito, I ventured outside to check out this really nicely done Fridolin that had arrived from Arizona.

Wound up talking to the proud couple that built/owns it. They did a great job.

Everywhere you look, there's a tasteful attention to detail throughout.

I thought that this was the best aspect of the entire package, such that it is.

Next, I got to see Scott's excellent Karmann Ghia pull into the lot in all of it's glory.

This car needs to be viewed in person. Pictures and video hardly do it the justice that it so duly deserves.

From any angle... from any lens... it's truly something to be observed. It's no wonder that it ended up being the chosen car of the evening. And rightly so.

I was stoked to see Damon's Oval arrive. One seriously killer car.

Especially the power plant. WOW.

Rayburn sets up for the long afternoon/evening ahead.

Like many of us... I dig old surviving Cal Look cars. Dave Kanase's car is right up there with the best of 'em. I remember when he built it and it had Porsche chromie wheels, like many of the earlier done cars.

Keith, some Canadians, Cal Lookers, and Nick's. GOOD TIMES.

After a few of my fellow DEEKS showed up, Tod Fuller decided to enhance, if you will, my car by adding two 5¢ nickels to the aft end of the vehicle. I literally forgot about him doing that and they ended up on the car. I know this because when I was loading up the Beetle on Sunday morning, I removed the coins. HAHA!! Touchè, Tod. I'll get ya back.

Speaking of old Cal Lookers, this was really cool... seeing both of Don Metz's cars at the same place at the same time. Two thumbs up.

Fellow DEEK Randy showed up with some cool looking wheels.

Brinton & Rayburn taking a break in John's makeshift office.

Many strange overtones on that weird afternoon. Some bizarre things tend to take place during the hours of twilight, yes?

Never tire of seeing Tiger's car. Just too cool.

Fellow DEEK Steve Wilkerson brought down his 'Vert. Which was Lisa's car at one time. Always nice to see things stay within the realm of the family.

Another surviving Cal Looker that's beyond cool... David Rhoad's green car. Green and back to it's former greatness, where it belongs.

Danny showed up with a club banner or sign, if you will.

However, Randy thought it best to make said sign official with one of our club stickers.

Recognize any of these individuals? I didn't think so.

Dennis and Dave polishing their highly refined lurking skills. Dave is officially my new wheel Pimp Daddy. HAHA!! More on that for another thread.

Speaking of professional lurkers... our own Brent K. raps with Dyno Don.

Ron Fleming and Dyno announcing the winner... Scott P.

I still have a lot of pictures from the weekend. So they'll get posted as I get time to get to 'em. Friday night was a blast, as to be expected. Thanks for having us, Panzers.

Awesome pic's , can't wait to see Sarges .

That Fridolin was built by Steve Gilbert and Steve Hook at ' One On One Restorations ' in Burnley in the UK . Amazing attention to detail and Volksworld Best Of Show Winner , when it was debut .

It also holds the title for the coolest entrance to a car show I have ever seen , turning up drifting sideways across the Sandown Park ( VolksWorld Show ) , rear display area ( on a slight slope ) , with the 2276 Wop Wop-ping , and ' Don't Believe The Hype ' playing on the stereo . It stopped and the two Steve's opened the two sliding doors , and we were all blown away  Cool

Yes it was!! Many OCTO's ago, Steve G told me a good story about the windscreen blowing out on the motorway. Must have been quite a scare! It's good to see a VW traveling west across the pond for a change Cheesy And in my neck of the woods, no less Smiley

Thank you, Rick, and everyone else. I never ventured outside of where we were parked. One of these times, I gotta walk around and see what else is across the street. I was having so much fun... I stayed planted.
