D.B.O. Not a club; a state of mind.

« on: June 17, 2009, 06:03:37 am »

Sorry that it has taken so long for me to finally get around to process these images. Without further delay...

The obligatory "Good morning, Don! Gosh darned nice to see ya!" picture of Dyno.

Early in the day, a few DEEKS kept returning to the base kamp with new license plate frame finds. Mark Ramirez finally got one he's been looking for. Before D.K.K. migrated over to Fullerton in the late '70s, it actually started in Whittier, where many of the founding members resided.

And you tell ME to get a room, Keith? I now have incriminating evidence to combat those posts. (insert Dr. Evil laugh here)

Up close look at Rayburn's Panzer.

This year's event was very special to us DEEKS... many of them traveled from afar to join in. Ito, Hicken, and Wood. Haven't seen these three at the same place since 1983.

We lucked out and landed a great spot with this view.

Since we had a lot of DEEKS from far away, a group hug... I mean, a picture was in order.

John, why so sad? Me no understand.

Kurlinski's very fine Java Green ride. If you haven't already figured it out, I'm a huge fan of this color and was lucky enough to own one.

Carlos gets presented with a special pink VW hat for being Sarges lil'... (censored). HAHA!!

Nice, yes?

So cool seeing Rhoad's car out in force. Such a great Cal Looker.

Thank you, Danny G. Bringing out the original club banner was a nice added feature.

Carlos' car... looking awesome, as to be expected.

Mr. Kinney at the controls, while Worm and Bob Davis discuss stuff. 3 more DEEKS that haven't been together since the early '80s.

Very good to not only have Steve Wilkerson and his daughter down from Oregon... but they brought their car, too.

Note that, like many of us, Steve still kept his club jacket after all of these years. Those that remember Steve will also recognize the BAD HABIT embroidery on the front. Also his old license plate for the very fast Ghia that he once had.

Steve's Rolling Blackout '67 was out on display and looking rather sano (old '80s word for sanitary).

Rick Sadler's soon-to-be infamous sombrero. Dig that D.K.P. porcelain badge, yes?

The cockpit and inner cabin of Steve's black '67.

Scott's Nick's award enjoys the inner-sanctum of one fine Karmann Ghia.

I think the only full shot that I got of my car the entire weekend. D'OH! Oh well.

So many DEEKS... so many great memories that we covered.

But wait... there's more.

Beecher's killer Split. I love this car.

Another Cal Look classic that's rather easy on the eyes... Brinton's '67.

WHOA! Superman meets La Luche... film at eleven!

Another fine Cal Looker that's been on the streets since the early '80s. Kanase's black '64. Complete with DEEK Tod Fuller's old real BRMs from the same circa.

I may have another pic or two that possibly got missed. If I find any more... I'll add 'em here. Thanks to all of the DEEKS that made this year's Classic a most memorable one. And my stomach appreciates all of the very happening and functional nutrients that were brought/cooked/served. At the risk of sounding corny, I'm stoked to have my VW family back. You guys are what made my early car days the best. Also, big thanks to D.K.P. for putting up with us. I hope we were decent neighbors. Sorry for the loudness... but that's how our trailer park usually operates. We cannot help it.

Did anyone see Harris' old orange '67? We were also wondering where Brian Plummer and his white '67 were, as well. Was really hoping to see both of those cars present.

Nice pics Mark,

They keep me going for geting my car out on the road. Those tuning issues geting me nuts!

Realy like your car with T-bars and the wheels.

Thank you, Patrik, for the kind words. A few more that I found.

Die Panzer Volkswagen sind großartig!

Frenchy & Mark Ramirez went back to the '70s (via Mark's album) and were returned safely.

Steve Wilkerson's orange 'Vert. Mmm, orange. It's not just a flavor or color, no. It's a way of life.
