Okay, so here's where I'm at.  I bought a set of what I assumed to be Scat stroker clearanced I-beam rods at a swap meet last month.  One of them, along with the piston attached, is toast, as the wrist pin seized and the rod turned blue, rendering it useless.  The other three rods are fine.   I'm trying to get a match or at least a rod close in weight  to the other three.  I contacted Scat and they have singles available, but my problem is this.  One of my remaining good rods weighs in at 532 grams, approximately, whereas new Scat I-beam rods are about 40 grams heavier.  The only thing I can figure is these rods are NOT Scat brand (there's no marking anywhere to be found on them) but it's my understanding that you can't remove that much material from a rod to get it in spec for balancing purposes.

What are my options, do I have to buy a whole other set of rods, or....?

That's what I thought I was getting with these, as they do have ARP bolts.  I'm just trying to figure out if these damn things were lightened way too much or if they're a brand other than Scat, and if so, perhaps I can find a match somewhere.

Well, it looks like I may have to start all over if I can't find a match.  I never would have thought it would be so tough to find a single matching rods.

Use a set of stock rods.  Spending $ on any other type of rod for your engine is throwing money away.  Put that money into some UDO lifters.

get them checked for spec, have them clearanced on backside and then re balanced. That's all you need to do.

They shouldn't, but it never hurts to check.

stock rods were on a 69mm crank from VW, so no, they bolt on. If you increase swing of crank then they do, especially at backside. 74mm you can get away with notching/clearancing case lightly for non clearanced VW rods (just did it to a new VW case).
