my rear torsion bars have had it, would you replace them with 26mm rears or vw bars

my car does about 3000miles and about 12 trips up the strip a year

I agree. I had 28mm torsions on my '67 for several years and it rode like a truck, plus I had a dificult time finding a ride height that I liked while still retaining any pre-load in the bars even with adjustable spring plates. Last summer I put in a nice used set of stock bars and I couldn't be happier with them. I'm going to put the 28's in my race bug project where they belong.
