Anyone got any old rumors about race cars and how they were raced?  No names please, out of respect for the shiftless nere do well's lurking on this site.

Rumor; A certain Gas car in the 70's had a cable operated piece of metal/plastic just behind the front axle centerline. It was lowered when the car was staged. Advantage? You could leave early without breaking the beams. If your car was not a wheel stander and had low bodywork, it would be difficult to see.
At tech the small panel would remain tucked into a narrow slit in the chassis, ready to drop down when needed. Just a rumor.  Grin

Ok! How about another rumor from the 70's?

There was a certain race team that would leave a team jacket in the back of their car when it was on the scales.
Back at their pit they would remove the "hundred pound jacket" (45 kg.) from the car.

just a rumor!  Wink

"hundred pound jacket"
That one is from NASCAR.  Same goes for the lead lined helmet.

As taken from that thread on the Jalopy Journal:

"A buddy of mine bought the ex Dyno Don Prostock Pinto less less the engine. After putting our own 351 in it we went to fill it up with gas because we could see it was empty. As soon as we poured some in it ran out the filler tube. Turns out the filler tube unscrewed for the race gas to go in and the filler tube only held the gas that was to be teched. Now they require a petcock by the carbs to get a fuel sample"

Are they talking about "our" Dyno Don, the big cheat  Grin
