I can't believe this POS has enthralled/entertained as many people as it has so far... as somebody in the thread said, I'll fully admit I don't "get it."  Lol. This Snorkelstang car is something I would LOVE to watch get destroyed, and ordinarily I wouldn't advocate destroying a VW, but this is a bug that was destroyed when it was converted into such an abomination.

The Samba thread appears to be one very long string of people eager to be in on one of the stupidest inside jokes ever... Cheesy  It almost reminds me of a bunch of Trekkies discussing the Vulcan language or whatever it was. Lol.

On a similar note to the snorkelstang car, I remember seeing a pic in an '80s issue of Hot VWs of a Bug that had a trans Am front end adapted to the nose... the guy proudly standing next to it was your stereotypical '80s Burt Reynolds devotee (much scrawnier, though) wearing a trucker hat and standard '80s mustache.  Car was hideous... I'll have to see if I can find the issue the pic appeared in, but I want to say it was circa '84 or '85.

Reminds me of how people justify Bernt Karlsson's "Pink Lady" by using the word "craftsmanship."  Lol.  Grin

[Reminds me of how people justify Bernt Karlsson's "Pink Lady" by using the word "craftsmanship."  Lol.  Grin]

Hmmm...... I have a confession Lips Sealed ........ Bernt Karlsson's "Pink Lady" is THE reason that I'm into VWs today ....I know ... heretic Tongue Wink... At the tender age of 8-10 I saw the Pink Lady in a Swedish car magazine .... and I was TOTALLY sold! Shocked Shocked Shocked And while I was in the 20s before I bought my first air-cooled VW (was through a period of MCs first) I never forgot it...... First I bought a 72 1302, I only had for 2 years. So in 1998 I bought an abandoned 1964 top chop project. modified it a bit and finished it. It has nothing to do with "Pink Lady" though Grin but still......have been fascinated by topchop cars ever since!!! ( it's the car I drive today!) And only now, at the age of 103, I'm making a "Real" Call Look ..... Long Live Bernt Karlson! Grin

I meant no offense to you or Bernt... if the car is someone's cup of tea, that's cool, just isn't mine.  I don't question the craftsmanship and work involved, but it just (again, only in my opinion) seemed that the choices made totally negate the work involved.  Stylistically speaking, that is.  The car could have been so much more appealing without some of the excess involved, but style is always a subjective thing.

I've never been a huge fan of the over-the-top customs, but when it gets to the point where the car looks a whole lot less like a true VW, I really lose enthusiasm all the quicker.

No offense taken on my part! Grin (can't  speak for Bernt ... Wink) I have changed taste gradually... and is now totaly in the cal-look camp, and is now making, what I would call a typical cal look... Or resto cal... Hmm .. or Nordic look, I don't know. Smiley  (today, if I were to pinpoint the worst thing on Pink Lady .... it would have to be the wire wheels ..... or the upholstery .... or ..... No, it would have to be the chain steering wheel....
...No, the wire wheels. Grin Grin Grin
