For sale WPS built 1776cc turn key motor. This is the motor which ran five 11 second passes in my street car this year and has just been dynod at 186hp at 7,300 rpm with 150ft/lbs torque on super unleaded pump gas. I’ve been developing this motor with Ian at WPS now for 6 years with carefully thought out improvements each winter to get to this level, whilst keeping the motor reliable and streetable. The motor is a great balance between race car and street car where it is now, and can easily be driven to the track raced and driven home again. Its been a very reliable combination with the only issues over the years being controlling the valves at high rpm before I switched to Ti valves.

The motor has only had just under 500 street miles and 9 passes following a full motor strip and freshen up. The spec goes like this.

The long block is based around a new Magnesium case with a wedgemated crank and flywheel. The crank is an 8 doweled welded counterweight, with a modified 8.5lb flywheel. The pulley is a Gene Berg Equaliser (power pulley size). There is a choice of two clutch options either a stage one Kennedy with a Black Magic disc or a stage 2 Kennedy with a Dakin disc. Rods are the big bolt Scat 5.4 H beams, the cam is an Engle FK87 with modified straight cut Magnum cam gears. 30mm Shadek oil plugged oil pump with Gene Berg cover, Mahle 90.5 barrels and pistons are used with a total seal 2nd ring and CB lightweight wrist pins and spiralocks. The push rods are Scat chrome molly in JayCee pushrod tubes. The heads / inlet manifolds are 043’s / tall Scat manifolds, by Jeff Denham with 42mm x 37.5mm Titanium valves, Scat dual valve springs, titanium retainers and Gene Berg 1.54 rockers with std vented rocker covers. Ignition is via an original rebuilt Scintilla magneto with 8mm Moroso leads, a JayCee mount with breather outlet. Brand new Webber 48 IDA’s with a Tayco cross bar linkage. The exhaust header is a Phoenix stainless steel 1 5/8ths with boss for a lambda probe with exhaust rap and a muffler of your choice (I’m keeping my Berg dual quiet packs sorry!) and a stainless steel stinger. The motor comes complete with generator a welded Gene Berg fan and all the modified tin ware, Gene Berg 4 quart deep sump, oil filter mount, external oil cooler with fans all with braded steel lines and Areoquip fittings.

For you nostalgia fans, the crank and flywheel and some Carrillo 5.4 rods which come with the motor are all original items from the old race car Blue Obsession which Russell Richie now owns.

The price £6500 complete.

This is a genuine 11 second motor in the right car and best of all you can drive it to the shops as well!

If you want to hear the motor running and racing buy the 2009 OFFDRC DVD (unashamed plug for this years DVD!), its on the 2008 DVD as well but the motor had some upgrades over the 2008/2009 season break so is a bit better now. If I can work the camera I’ll post up a picture and a short clip of the motor on the dyno soon.

Yeah Richie, there are a few secrets in there, but its nearly Christmas, good will to all men and all that!

I think I've managed to get a photo sorted but it was to big to load here so its on the link below. Don't hold your breath for the movie clip given its taken this long to sort a photo!

Hope this works.

Thanks Joe

You don't fancy poping round and sorting out the movie clip as well do you? That way it might get to posted it this year!

The motor does usually run with rear tinware I must have just been tinkering with something when the photo was taken.

Hi Jeff,

The only footage I have is on the OFF DVD's its on last years and this. 12.200 best in 2008 and 11.915 in 2009. I think the only footage I have is a bit of in car from 2008. I can try and post this but I'm not to good with the picture / movie stuff, hence no dyno movie clip here yet

The Static CR is 11.7 but with a FK87 needless to say the dynamic CR is a lot less than that in practice (dynamic CR) even with some good VE from your heads!

Just so you know the car also ran the original set of Mini D’s you did for Ian at WPS with 40mm x 37.5mm S/S valves. It weighed in at about 1600lbs with me in it back then and ran a best of 12.712. It would have gone quicker I’m sure but for me dropping a valve, which was my own fault, for not changing valve springs having forgotten to unbolt the rockers over the winter. An expensive mistake which I will not be making again. I should give the head to Richie so you can have a look some time, to see if it can be repaired as they were a really good set of heads for a hot street 1776.

Hi Jeff,

Better late than never, I've attached a short clip on the link below.

Thanks to Lee Maynard for the footage.

I've still not managed to sort out the dyno footage but will get it posted once I have got some adult assistance!

I see you also posted the "Christmas Jumper Experiments", if you get a bumper crop next week you can cover the whole car.  Cheesy

Thanks to those of you who enquired about the engine, but it has now been sold and delivered to a good home in Essex.
