D.K.K. member, Joe Larson, is one happy VW owner... again. He found and recently acquired his old green '66 Bug. Here are a few photos that he sent. He's already added front disc brakes and is planning for new paint, next. Can't wait to see it all done and displaying club stickers, once again. This car has been sitting in a garage since 1981. EPIC!

Add this car to the list of other original club cars.

Joe Larson's '66 sedan
Jim Smith's Oval
Rick Meredith's '67 sedan
Manny's Oval
Greg Brinton's (Gary Grauman's) '67 sedan
Junior's '70 Squareback (hope I got that year correct)

DEEKS, I'm sure that I forgot other cars... don't be shy & add to the list.

Good stuff. Any photos of this car or Jim's Oval back in the day?

Yep... I'm very stoked for Joe. Can't imagine how cool it would be to find a Cal Looker that one of us built thirty years ago. Then, the joy of owning it again. It's like getting a second chance. I'd NEVER part with my orange '66 if I ever find it.

Tero, that's a good question. But here are the only ones  of Jim's car that I could come up with. Hopefully, one of the other DEEKS can furnish a pic or more of Joe's green '66 from the club days.

Jim's car has the first generation club stickers. If I'm not mistaken, his car is the only one in existence that still has those.

Thanks, Mark... I knew you'd clarify anything regarding this car. Does Joe have any pictures of it from the old days? I'd love to see 'em on The Lounge. I'll gladly resize 'em if he wants. Either you or he can e-mail me, if he's interested in that.

I'm gonna guess sometime during the late '70s, but no later than '80.

Just looked through the VW trends from 1976 to 1981, couldn't spot it.

it's nice to see that Joe Larson has found his old 66, if I were him I would try to remake it as when he sold years ago ...

Fred, just a stupid question about oval's licence plate ... "WHOOOAH" is the response of a Marine when someone says "semper fidelis"?  Embarrassed

Drů, the Oval is Jim Smith's car... another D.K.K. member. Sorry for the confusion. And to answer your question regarding the license plate... that's from an old So Cal radio station (KMET 94.7 FM) in the '70s. "Whooyaa!" was one of their slogans.

My friends that served in the Marines tell me that the phrase is "HOO-RAH!"

Joe Larson's car is a green '66. Hopefully, we'll get some more pics posted up, both old and new.

You're welcome.

Speaking of welcome... please welcome Joe "SKEETER" Larson (see green '66 on this thread) to The Lounge, everyone.

In addition, Joe is a founding member of our club.
