My winter project 2006

BeetleBug:
I thought I would post some pics of my winter project. Not so much is planned except some minor head work, changing the cam and increasing the CR.

Out it goes:

BeetleBug:
15 minutes later the engine was out.

The old specs were;

- 80mm crank
- 94mm Mahle pistons
- 44x37 CB Wedgeport heads with Bugpack 4046 springs and titanium retainers. The heads received a fluff and buff by the Baboon before mounting.
- Engle FK46 Cam.
- C.R. 9,5
- 009 ignition
- 48 IDA

BeetleBug:
As mentioned earlier I will change the cam along with the springs and valves. I will also increase the compression but it will still be on the low side because I still wish to play with the nitrous button.

My trusty 1300S gearbox is also out of the car and will be replaced by a much better suited box from Kevin @ KCR VW transmissions : http://www.kcrtrans.com/
Along with the gearbox I will also upgrade my tires and change the rims to the ones you can see on the left side. I`m actually just borrowing the rims from my girlfriend :-* I think it`s
oh so cool that she invested in some genuine car parts! The burners will receive DOT slicks from MH.

BeetleBug:
I had some electrical issues last year due to a poor performing Optima Battery. I tossed the sh.. in the garbage and will change it to a .............. Optima blue Top. Or do you guys know of a better high capacity battery?

I was glad to see that everything looked ok when we opened the engine. Guess it must be pure luck since "everyone" is experiencing lifter "issues" over there. My lifters were SLR resurfaced racing ones from http://www.aircooled.net/  On the other hand, with only 200 miles last season everything should look like new.

On top of the mentioned upgrades I have also built a new fuel system with a separate Holley Blue Pump and regulator for the Nitrous and a separate 10mm fuel line.

Right know I`m waiting for my heads to be finished and I have also sent some parts off to a cryo treatment.

Feel free to comment or ask questions  :)

Jon:
Cool to see your project Kalle, I feel the urge to pick up my new case one of these  days, so I can get started.

BTW are you repainting the whole car except the rear apron? :-p
