Honestly I don't know. I am guessing it is to keep the fins from breaking after all the material was removed?

these paticular heads are designed more like the early factory german design wich in turn will cool better than your todays solid block design. the weld will keep solid torqe to the upper outer studs for many years down the road. some people couldent care less and would let it go down the road wich is fine but i always try to improve on things like this. Your welcome, Harry!  I'm not a guy who relishes the post office as there's ALWAYS a line out the door.  Plus, I'm not too keen on sending stuff out of the country (forms, rates, etc).  The Saturday I sent your stuff, I had your address all typed out so's I could read it OK when I got over there.  Upon getting out of the car, I noticed I'd lost your address somewhere along the line... back to the house for another reprint, then back to the post office.  I was fit to be tied by the time I got done!! I know what Sarge is talking about.  That is why I have folks send me their address in an email then I cut and paste it into a word document make it larger then print it out.  I then glue it to the package and cover it with clear packing tape.  That way I don't mess up the address and it is easy to read.  Something to think about especially if you are mailing out of the country.  Which I have done a few times in the past month. It works for me...
