Not really in the mail, but...

I took the grandkids to Disneyland for a Christmas present and went by the Bergs to drop off a 69mm Berg crank I've had for years to get it mated to a lightened flywheel.  While there Dee showed me some stuff she had for sale and I found a 1985 Berg catalog.  I had never seen one before and I thought I had all of their catalogs.  It was for sale so I bought it.  She has more so if you are interested call Dee.

Very good condition '71 DDS catalog.  I'm happy enough about that, but then I looked at the other documents that came with it

1.  Dealer update letter for spring '71.  It's on white paper with purple lettering.  Says they have waiting lists for the full flow oil pump, the cast plenum ram intake, and the much coveted saf-tee shifter, so "order NOW".  Cheesy
2.  Dealer order blank, printed on purple paper.
3.  Dealer statement of policy
4.  Listing of suggested selling prices, including dealer cost.  Price examples:
       a.  oil sump cost 28.25, list 39.95
       b.  oil pump cost 20.97, list 29.95
       c.  82x92 cylinder kit cost 79.75, list 118
       d.  010 disty, cost 17.30, list 25.80
       e.  pulley cost 15.90, list 23.95
       f.  IDA carb cost 102, list 125
       g. IDA manifolds cost 52, list 74.95
       h. IDA kit with carbs, linkage, manifolds cost 281.50, list 360
       i.  230hp 2180cc competition engine cost 2080, list 2250  Shocked Shocked Shocked
       j.  Deano super heads "all the good things" cost 335, list 415  Shocked Shocked Shocked

       And last but not least.....

       k.  Saf-tee-shifter cost 27.90, list 39.95

IMO,  Best shifter EVER!!!  but then again, I never broke one,  alot of people did, somebody should re-pop them , if that were to happen, I'm first in line.

X2.. I only broke four including one in my bay window Grin  I think Fleming doubled that figure. My Berg shifter is slow and clunky in comparison.
But in hindsight that might not be a bad thing.

Phil , a short description of both , Berg shifter: built for Mike Tyson  , Deano shifter: built for Mohamed Ali,( force vs finesse ), both winners!   Cheesy

Ha!  It's funny, every guy from back in the day says they broke many DDS shifters, but nowadays they are the most expensive/sought after ones!  Supply and demand I guess.....

Personally, I'd like to have a DDS shifter but I won't pay 500 or more bucks for it.  I'll keep looking for "deals".

Besides, I love my current copper Hurst with the wood ball.  Wood ball is so much better than the black plastic, has a better "feel".

Christ on a bike! That was the equivalent of spending $11,618.73 or $12,563.33 today. You could buy a brand-new V-8 Nova in '71 for $2,254.

A pair of original Filstar air filters for IDA's.  They came with everything, including the blocks to the tops of the carbs that extend the air screen into the air cleaner and secure the base to the carbs.  These filters allow for the OEM air horns/stacks to be run.  The foam is toast, but that's no big deal.  Looking to run these on my Single Cab's new 2332.   Cool

Lately I have been collecting VW printing plates.

Yeah but everybody is doing that anymore.  Wink

Seriously? You've found enough plates to consider collecting them? And here I thought I was a master craphound. I am honestly impressed.

I have over 100 printing plates, most of them from a UK dealer who closed after 40 years trading. They make a great display in a glass-topped coffee table!
