Hi,
I need some thoughts about some parts for a new engine.
The engine will go into an barndoor bus and the project is on
budget. The aim is more torque than revs.
I have some parts laying around from my last 1776cc and some others bits which are fixed to use:
AS21 Case bored for 90,5 barrels, 94mm Mahle barrels for 82mm stroke, a used W125 cam with lifters and OEM 1,25 rockers. 5.5 CB rods with Chevy rod size
A friend of mine is ordering at vwparts.net so I am fixed what that shop offers. Two main elements need to be fixed.
CRANK:
The thoughts are to get an 78mm or 82mm crank from CB. I don`t want to get the engine to wide so 84mm is no option.
I will be very easy to build with the 78mm crank and chevy rod size and will be an narrow engine.
With the 82 crank freeing the case will need more attention and the engine will get wider so the enginetrim will need more attention/time.But more cc`s
I was also thinking about an OEM welded crank. I read mainly good things about them BUT then I saw an 84mm crank live and was not very pleased with how it looked.
It was very "thin" at some points. Welding at the heart isn`t thsat welcome in my engineer mind...
HEADS:
Valve size should be 40 x 35,5
Options are:
Los banditos heads
CB 041
CB044
The heads will get an headjob so it`s only the base to start.
Never heared something about the Los banditos & CB041.
At the moment I am tending to 044 heads BARE/std bore.
I have also laying around 40mm manley valves and HD keepers/retainers, dual springs and so on. I would only need to buy manley 35,5 valves.
Maybe some could share some thoughts with me.
Thank ya and a happy new year!
Felix
