Hey guys,
Ok, so I am almost ready to mount my Bosch Blue Coil. I really like my open space now with no air ducts on my shroud! Where do you guys think I should mount my coil? Where did you mount YOUR coil. Pics would be awesome! Here's a pic of mine!

Same here. This pic is after I fully shaped and polished the bracket.

This is the rough cut of my bracket after adding the helicoils and hot rod drilling it.

Run a wire through firewall and mount behind rear seat.

I like this idea also though! I don't know where you can get a longer coil (spark plug) wire by itself, but I do know that you can get a firewall "bulkhead" mount for going through the firewall. It's a slick deal when done correctly IMO.

65,
What type of linkage will  you use?
If you absolutely REFUSE to run a MAG, the case maount behind the dist. are what I normally prefer.
They can be fabbed out of sheet metal or aluminium as shown above. I ran one once on the backside of a 'CatHouse' fan shroud ...
I like to keep the coil inside the engine compartment, just in case testing is in order ... you never know ... call me a pessimist, but it happens!
MAGS? No I've NEVER had a problem with THEM! LMAO  Grin Wink

Another Idea is to weld a tube on both side's of fan shroud and run wire through it and mount coil on back side of shroud? Just a idea !

Danny,
How about mounting it inside the fresh air outlet section of the shroud ... like on a Thing piece, since it doesn't have the outlets ... all you would see is the top with the connections sticking out.
Could it be done? I think so ... It'd be clean.

Thanks you guys! Those are some cool ideas Danny! Tom, my linkage is the dreaded Cb hex bar linkage! I "MAY" go and buy the CSP centerpull linkage. That's what I really wanted. However, I hate to waste what I have right now. I am trying to finish up my room addition on my house Roll Eyes
If I go the cb then I guess anywhere is possible. With the CSP right above the case may be a no go. Not sure yet. Still trying to decide....... My coil wire is a good length, so I can get a little creative. I just wanted some room up front this time for my big hands!

In the interim, I mounted the MSD coil close and vertical. Future plans will have it mounted on the interior parcel tray. With the coil wire
going thru a grommet on the firewall and a AN bulkhead fitting thru the fan housing.

If your building a proper cal look car as Txt say Use a mag, far cooler than a big red thing......., if not a stock black Bosch coil in normal place

Spare piece of hardware store angle aluminum worked for me. Just don't over tighten ... squish. oops!

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback and pics! Very cool! There are some awesome motors! When I built my first 2165 motor I was not too worried about how it looked. This tiime I want it to look cleaner!
Well, I did not know that a original cal-look car has to have a mag or black coil. Even though I grew up and am a cal. native. My first cal-look bug was a 59 rag top in 1981.
Do you think my original black 1965 cal. plates will make up for the red distributor? Grin Wink
