Hi,
maybe there will be a new aftermarket cylinder head for oxyboxer and/or 4" bore conversions available very soon. The first batch of 3 pairs (edit: 4 pairs) have just been finished on the CNC mill and the first set will be tested on an 86x100mm oxyboxer this spring. The heads are constructed by Thorsten Pieper from germany (some of you may know his tool steel type 1 lifters and dry sump oilpumps...) and are completely CNC milled. These heads are aimed especially for street use so they are extensively finned and there are air channels between the ports as well. They feature a o-ringed cosworth style inlet flange, 50cc combustion chambers, twin spark ignition, and a maximum of 50x40mm valves is possible. Thorsten isnīt sure if there will be more sets made but if you are interested in a set I can forward you with his contact details (PM please). What do you think about it?
Bye,
Tobi

Even more intresting if you could order them with custom CNC- program for different valve, spark plug locations (bigger intakes) and bolt patterns. This might be the ultimate head configuration for big cc N/A racing engines, definitely thumbs up. Not interested in relocating intake and exhaust guides for cast production heads. Add enough material for extreme porting and consider them sold

Hi Tobi, Can you define "twin spark'?
Not sure what you mean, I sort of see 2 possible holes for 2 sparkplugs per cylinder, but then no extra plugs in pictures, and If i'm looking correctly, the plugs would be next to each other in the same side of the cylinder?
Please correct me if I'm totally off base.
thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg, just have a look at the 3rd pic and you can see the position of the two spark plug holes in each combustion chamber. But you are right: thereīs just one sparkplug installed in the pic. BTW: the pics donīt show the final finish of the heads. After the milling they are glass blasted and a final anodizing is possible as well. Thorsten decided to have a fourth pair machined in the first batch as he had ordered two spare aluminium blocks just for the case that anything would have been wrong with with the first heads. Fortunately everything was fine. On the attached pic you can see all eight heads of the first batch. The pair on the left is already glass blasted. I'd say make the shafts split per cylinder and 3 studs each that would be perfect.

Nice heads. I take it they are being send to the US for independent testing. As they have been make over here in Europe and we don't want OC67VW coming along saying they are not going to work as good as the originals.

They look very nice, but the chamber needs some work in my opinion. What aluminium quality has he used?

Hi, as mentioned above these heads are primarily a private project which does not necessarily get marketed so these heads are no "plug&play" deal! The heads that are done right now will all receive stock style rockers (2-bolt design) but looking at the material left in the rocker arm area (sorry, I donīt know the right word for it) it should be possible to mount others like JPM rockers but that all would require machine work. Thorsten wants to test these heads very soon on the streets - that means long distance autobahn driving with top speeds above 180km/h for him! - and if they should work (regarding power, cooling and reliability) he will maybe make some more of them (complete sets with seats, valves etc. or maybe bare as well) if there should be enough interest. Hello Roman, what exactely would you change on the chambers? Thorsten asked a lot of different tuners (Porsche, VW, jaguar, BMW motorcycle...) about their opnions in chamber design and the results can be seen on the pics. We will see if it works... But of course these heads - like any other head - can be further worked on by hand! In fact there is still some handporting left! At least to remove some marks on spots that the mill didinīt reach perfectly. The aluminium quality is sort of a secret, yet but I will ask Thorsten if itīs okay to post it here. Tobi

Yesterday I received my pair of heads which will be used for my next engine (86x101,6mm oxyboxer). Attached are some more pics of the heads.

I have on the build also 4" bore engine, TF-1 case, 88 stroke and nickies. This head is another excellent choice, firstly i was thinking to use JPM heads.

Very nice work! scary i modelled about the same head design in CAD/CAM last year for virtual prototyping, seems like the need is there. If you are interested in 'matching style' valve covers, contact me,i might have something very interesting to offer.
