Runs with Scissors

« on: June 14, 2007, 12:58:54 pm »

I was reading on of KS's editorials about him taking his cal-look bug to a car show in the 70's and being the only Cal-look there. What is the history of cal-look in Europe? Who were the innovators? Were there clubs like the DKP? How about some stories or pics from the past. Be interesting to hear how this "fad" caught on over there.

I'll get back to you as soon as I can – right now I'm up to my ears in magazine deadlines (911 & Porsche World this time!). I have some stories, but you may find them boring!

First two Cal Lookers in the UK? KS and Tony Weston (1975/76). First guy to go all the way with a late-model on 8-spokes? Tim Sneller (1980-ish). First club? Air Kool Kustoms...

i don't think this is going to be a boring post KS. and by the time the stories hit the late 80's i think we may have some very nice history as well...

Not sure if cal-look really took off here in the 70's we had plenty od "oddities". The hi -po scene was mainly based around rallye cross and formula vee race cars. There were a few drag racers but nothing like the US scene had.
