Shit! I'm in that picture! Shocked That's an old one - 1997?

Of the six of us in that picture from Half A Brain, there are three of us still into VWs, two fell off the face of the earth and one died.

I'm not sure Fabian but as one of our club cars I remember it well. I know it's not DKP type history, but you might find it interesting anyway!

It started as a rather rough LHD Italian import, then was converted to RHD before being bought and restored by Stuart Whitehead, also from Half a Brain Volkswagen Club. Stuart dechromed it, painted it fontana grey, fitted a proper lairy (in mid-90s UK terms!) thickwall 1679 and polished Empi 5 reps. Those were just a stopgap until MWS released their BRM replicas, and I believe these wheels were from the very first batch. At this point Steve Bodycote was driving an early look '72 with a Stateside Tuning 1776 which later got sold to Rich Whitlock (the guy behind the Bus and Bug Selectas, another HAB member) minus motor. Steve bought the '63 without the 1679 when Stuart got a 912, and put the 1776 in it, then decided that it should get the Thurber treatment. All of us in HAB were getting really influenced by KS's first Cal Look book, in fact I had a Ghia in gunmetal grey on 8-spokes at the time too! Look at the club stickers and jackets...
A place in Kiddeminster did the paint and Bernard Newbury did the interior, and I think it got debuted at VoWo 1997. Steve won the "Spirit of the 70's" award at VoWo that year -  a special award from KS, never given out before or since!

Steve sold the car to get his own 912 a year or so later, I think to a guy in mid-Wales. Steve ended up getting divorced a little while later, moved house and drifted away from the club scene. Last I heard, he'd sold the Porsche and ended up with an MR2 turbo of all things!

The car pretty much disappeared, and I think last time I saw it was at Santa Pod in about 2003, having changed hands a couple more times in the meantime. I think Heydon from the Greenhearts may have owned it for a short while too. I'd love to find it again as it was one of my favourite cars of the time.

OK so this one of my photos and I think you are right Neil it was 97. most of the shots that Nico posted wthe other day were taken by me but they are from a couple of different VolksWorld shows, the one of the Dark lord Oval and the one of my brothers old 67 next to  Mark James's ghia were both taken in I think 96 the rest were taken the following year (except the one of Chris Joy's old oval thats at the pod many years ago)m the great thing about them is that noneof it was planned it's a sort of improptued gatehring that takes place after the show it's a great time to see the cars that were on display and get some proper photos here are a few more
