I have always wanted to put a 911 gearbox in my street VW and I will be doing it in the future.  5 tall gears made just for crusing...that nice long first that allows you to clear the intersection before shifting. It has been a long time but I am finally starting to gather parts. I have the straight VW pan (66), the gearbox is being finished up...and I am prepping the suspension parts. I will run Type 2 stub axles on this too. They are bullet proof on a car that is over 1,000 lbs lighter than a bus. Will be making custom hubs, narrowing the IRS arms, etc.

Is that a 901 trans Rick??? -- I've got a 901 in the Ghia currently and I really like it -- the only things that suck are (1) where the clutch arm is located, bottom left side, I would recommend doing a 1" trans raise so that the clutch arm is away from the horns; (2) on the shifter first is dog legged to the left, reverse is away from you and 1st is right below it, so your 1st/2nd shift is like a normal 2nd/3rd (OH, no hard lauches on that 1st gear they are VERY weak) -- If you have a 901/07 or /13 they come with the ZD 5th gearing and 4th is also OD geared for making a really nice freeway cruiser --

I think I've got a spare set of /13 4th and 5th gears in the rollaway

Fiatdude....It is in fact the 901. I just want it for the cruising characteristics.  The car it is going in has the trans raised so I know what you mean about the clutch arm.  I have a lot of mods I am doing on my floor pan so the trans location is  the easiest part of my set up.  I got the idea from Steve Beecher in the DKP years ago. I am finally getting around to doing it. Thanks for the feedback. I may get ahold of you to see what gear combos you have.
