They do look nice but I've seen 3-4 of them end up spinning a pulley half (in a very short time). My guess is the pulley isn't made out of the correct steel. I've yet to see an original do that.

Hi Airspeed. Got your pic. I have a question. I'm going to run this to get more cooling to the heads. I run a type 4 with up right cooling. The standard top pulley is fitted to the alternator in a back to front manner so as to align the top pulley with the bottom. would this 912 pulley you have fit on to the keyway as I have described above. If you could try this for me and it fits without interfering with the alternator i'll buy it. Thanks G

Not sure what you mean by that, but I have a stack of original porsche shims with it as well and you can use this under the first pulley halve to shim out both halves forward to align something. Thats how I used it also for my modified crank pulley trigger set-up. I don;t think you should (or can?) reverse mount it, but there's no need either imo.

Walter (airspeed),
If you use a type 1 upright cooling on a type 4 engine the pully s (on the generator) don t line up, so that why they sell a 'reversed set up' for a type 4 engine. they switch the inner and outer pully halves (normally the inner is welled to the hub) on this set up it is loose, so they switch the outer to the inside and because off different offset off the they than line up. But as you said I think the 912/356 pully is already in 3 peaces (not welded to the hub) so if you shim them they will line up. Right?

Hey Martin thanks for the info on the pulley. I'm still unsure if the main hub part will fit the alternator in reverse order as described above by Eddie. This way I could just get the hub 1st an see if it fits then get the other parts. Thanks G

Good evening Garrick, Do these pics. help you a little more? The inner half as far as I am aware, would be the notched half under normal circumstances. I would offer to stick them on my engine, but am about to go on holiday shortly so wouldn't be able to do it for a good few weeks. (Don't know if this will help, http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1199564 , it's an alternator conversion kit for a 356/912 that uses a type 1 alternator, so at least you know the pulley has a chance of fitting in it's regular configuration). All the best, Martin.
