Hello cal look lounge!  My name is Oliver and I'm 18 years old I was directed here by my dad (Pas) who some of you may know. I would like to share with you my '70 beetle who goes by the name of ed. [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] I bought the car just after my 18th birthday and soon after passing my test back in January and I have been driving it daily to and from college since. The car was very original and only had a few scrapes and some rot on the rear wings. I have plans to make a late looker of the car and will be posting soon with the work I have done so far! |

Awesome! I do like the 68-70 model years. I had a 70 in the same colour - best car I ever had. Tickle the front down, lose the bumpers and add some wheels and its sorted! There's a picture of it on leec's thread about rear tyres in the main section.

Awesome! I do like the 68-70 model years. I had a 70 in the same colour - best car I ever had. Tickle the front down, lose the bumpers and add some wheels and its sorted! There's a picture of it on leec's thread about rear tyres in the main section.
Luckily for me my cousin gave me his old 2L alloys with the correct tyres for front and rear for my 18th birthday so I'm all sorted on that front! |

Since having the car I haven't done much as funds are limited being a student  However the car did come with 6 boxes of service parts and general parts so I have done small bits such as upgrading the headlights and interior light, replacing the exhaust pipes and fitting a blanker plate in the dash. Being an 18 year old having a sound system was one of my first priorities The car came with some old 70's speakers and a radio however they were too far gone to be used. I opted to fit a hidden system using some kickpanels that came with the car, some jvc 300w speakers and a mini amplifier with an mp3 line. [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] I wired all of the components through the back of the glovebox and drilled a hole in the ash tray so that the mp3 cord could come through |

I had a few hours spare today so I decided to do some work on the car. I replaced the rear light seals as there were some spares in a box that came with the car. I took this photo with the rear light housing off. The difference in colour is awesome!  [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] I decided I would also fit the original kick panel carpetting over the speakers and panel I fitted although I only managed the passenger side. This morning I continued work on the kick panel capetting. I fitted the carpet over the drivers side kick panel and patched up a small tear that ran along the heater channel Before [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] After [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] Now both panels are covered and look much more appealing than the black plastic beneath |

OK small update my tacho and dash panels came through the other day and they look pretty good! [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] However It's not all good news I got into a knock with a 4x4 which resulted in me losing my front bumper and both front wings in need of replacing But the front valance is fine and theres no damage to the A-posts or steering so every cloud has a silver lining I suppose |

OK small update. After my little knock I've been on the hunt for some wings I've managed to get myself some genuine steel ones (big thanks to Neil Davies). Also I fitted the tacho to the car and also put a matching temperature gauge in. However it isn't wired up yet and the bezel is a bit beaten up but for £10 I couldn't say no! You can make the bezel look almost like new again by rolling a round handled screwdriver handle around the rim , without squashing the square lip if it has one. Some light W/D 400 then 800 to smooth off the lip or edge works well, and then to make it all one colour obviously there is new paint, but a cheats way is to use a black permanent marker to colour it in. |
