Hi guys,
On the 8th of May this year we fly in to San Francisco for a family holiday of a life time.
My wife and 4 year old son will be with me.

We spend the first 7 days driving towards our final stop of Anaheim to tick the Disney box for my son.

I would really appreciate some advice on any 'VW'  based stuff that I must do or see whilst there! I plan to visit Ron Lummus and Berg but anything else to suggest?

Obviously Cal look based is a priority.
Any help appreciated  Grin

If you're able to, you might check out Ray Schubert and Mark Merrill's location, in Mountain View (about 45 min south of SF on U.S. 101)

Bay Area has a few VW shops worth stopping in to see. Buggy House in Hayward, I cut my teeth there, worked for Jerry there for over 10 years. He'll enjoy telling you stories about golf ball flood, RPM limiting rotors on Lil Frank's hot rod, oil donuts and 100mph+ on Foothill in my car on jetting runs.

Neat stuff to see in Bay Area? Point Reyes National Seashore is a great day. Big Basin State Park. Drive from Redwood City through La Honda and out to San Gregorio is a jewel of a scenic ride. If you have a kid or two that enjoy steam locomotives you could ride the narrow gauge trains at Roaring Camp (in Santa Cruz Mountains, not far from Big Basin), or the mini steamers up in Tilden Park (Berkeley).

A cool (and free) car museum in Los Angeles area is Nethercutt Collection, in Sylmar. Just off I-5 freeway, as you come down hill from Magic Mountain. A few first place concours winners in there... Bugatti Type 57, Talbot Lago, M-Benz 540K.... a must see.

Better check on the monthly DKP Cruise Night. I believe it's on hiatus.

Like Jim said the Nethercutt is worth checking out. Limited hours so check for availability. They have a lot of antiques there so the non-car people with you won't be totally bored.

to see in CA, both car related and nature. We spend some days driving to
Yosemite National Park and drove out to the coast and cruised down Higway 1
back to LA.
