The red is the car of Jason Clarcke , an englishman ! The interior from Bernard Newbury imselft ! And the 61 yellow is the car of a great friend, Kenneth Anno ! One of two brothers madness. The Lime Juice is his car too. His brother bought the old Dave Winning drag car last month and he has got an awesome split cal look !

Red Zeppelin belongs to my brother jay (jay c on the lounge) & was built by by both of us over the last 6 years. Simon & the boys at the paintbox laid on the colour & the interior was trimmed by Bernard Newbury in material that had sat on a shelf in an upholstery warehouse in Compton California since the late 70's!  Cool

Very proud to be involved with Jays 67...I think you boys need to start a build thread now Wink...the amount of time and dedication you boys have  put into Red Zeppelin is inspiring..subtle mods and all the traditional Cal Look touches...good work boys and a well deserved top 20..

Beautiful cars. If anyone knows the dipstick set-up on red zep just say. Looks like it's a converted standard dipstick with some kind of temp sender. I'm looking at ditching my sump temp sender for one but hate the look of the VDO dipstick sender. Any clues?

It's just a standard dipstick. The wire you can see runs through the tinware to a temp sender lower down

Congratulations Jay..... Truly Cal-Look perfection going on there...... No surprise really that your car, Kenneth Anno's yellow 61 and the Porsche Gold/green car were in my top 5.
The bronze single cab split, and the simplicity of the easily overlooked, lime green Manx buggy with stock steering wheel/gearstick etc really appealed to me also.

Jick, sorry I never made it this year but I need to ask did you get a top 20 for the kid dean car ? I do hope do because I think the effort you have put into that car to make the way it was, and the quality of the job from the photos I have seen, you are truly deserving, I love when something is given back to the scene and you have truly done that, well done and hats off

The Red Zeppelin engine is so understated; fantastic.

Is the fabric on the seats the same as on Dumper?  Don't have my copy of 'the book' any longer to compare (passed it to Alex Defcon3 when we moved here.....)

I gotta tell ya Jay . . . when I first saw your interior, It immediately made me think of my brother's "Dumper" and I had to look at pics of his car to compare. Great find on the Herculon!
Again, your '67 looks AWESOME!  Cool

Hi there Russell..... Many thanks dude, nice words like that make the stress and hard work worthwhile!
No top 20 for us I'm afraid....but I'm not surprised at all, the level of detail on all the cars on display was quite incredible..... Everyone ( well, there was one exception!) seemed very pleased with what we'd achieved with it....Our intention from the outset with the Squareback was a sympathetic restoration, trying not to redo any of Kid-Deans work unless totally necessary.
we're extremely  proud of the job we've done with the body & paint, and I feel that we can more than hold our own with the best of them on that score.
However, the underpinnings etc still need detailing and with a 34-ish Year old interior, totting up enough Volksworld show points is probably a non starter.....next up is to MOT and drive the shit out of it....haha.

Hi Mark. Thanks so much for the compliment. That really means a lot.
I was trying to find some herculon, and had no luck here in the uk so started looking further afield. Managed to contact a fabric warehouse in Compton or Gardena who said they had some but couldn't send any pictures. Luckily a friend was going on holiday not too far from there, and kindly agreed to pop in and have a look. I gave him some pictures of styles I liked and one of them was a picture of your brothers car. A week later he emailed me a pic of what he'd found and I also had to double check to make sure it wasn't from the same roll of fabric. For a second though...
