OK Guys, so I've been a little quite for a while but currently have an urgent project ongoing....

Always wanted to build a very specific 67 Squareback and in December managed to track one down that was ideal for the project in mind.....

So Richie collected it for me and then lowered it, we then stripped it and sent it to get painted, all within 7 days....

I'm thinking that wheels could confirm where I think you may be going with this....

Indeed, and such a nice base car to start with.

OK, this is how I remember it.
Bill correct me if I'm wrong or add anything I missed.

You saw the pic that Bill posted of it in red. Great looking car.
Unfortunately, some cretin keyed it. Hit pretty much every panel on the car. (Was it over a girl?  Grin )

We stripped the squarebee and prepped it for paint.
Bill had a brother that worked at a paint shop in Garden (Garbage) Grove so we towed it down there to get some color on it.
Bill still hadn't decided what color he wanted so when his brother asked, Bill responded "I don't know. Surprise me."
(I figure Bill's brother was anxious for the chance to prank his little brother.)

Some time later we Bill's brother called and told him it was done. So we rolled over to GG to tow it over to Bill's apt in Orange.
We get there and the car rolls out in PINK!

I turn to Bill and say "It looks like Pepto Bismol!" and it stuck. Forever to be known as Pepto

Side story; Bill and I went to the LA County Fair. We were stopped by one of those carney guessers. She offered to guess what kind of car Bill drove. So we put our money down and she said "Camaro."
"Nope.. I drive a Squareback."
"Double or nothing. I'll guess the color."
"OK"
"Blue"
"No. It's Pink."
Carney looks over to me with a WTF expression.
"Yep. He drives a Pink Squareback."

When it was first painted it still had 8 spokes, we finished it just before Bug In 31. You have to remember these were our only cars back then, we were all in our very early 20's so everything was done on a budget. Great times.

Sounds about right, I remember it being about a 5 min conversation. Believe it or not it came from the VW color charts "poppy lilac".  It sure worked for the times. I would have never thought it would be replicated almost 35 yrs later.
 Thank you Russell.
