Anyone using this here? Just read up on it a little at thesamba. Was thinking it would be nice to have more control over my timing rather than have a limited advance on my 009 on my draw through turbo. Also it looks like it has a rev limiter and a 2 step built in.

saw it being used on a turbo because it had quite a lot of interesting features. you can program the curve so no locked 009 which would run bad at idle, two step module, limiter,… i liked what i saw and have been thinking about getting one myself.

i would like to hear more reactions of people who use it as well.

Agreed. My car seems to run ok but I have very limited run time. I'm sure having some advance when not under boost would be a good thing!

Try a vacuum advance dizzy (adjustable like Mallory units are cool), but using a one-way valve inline so you don't blow out the diaphragm.

Or use a Black Box.

I think with a vacuum dizzy I would still have to limit it

I meant an SVDA.
Limit mechanical advance to 20/22/24 etc, then adjust up the vacuum advance can for off-boost cruising.

Black box is still probably simpler and easier though, I'm thinking of one myself.

Or even better: set your mechanical timing to 32-34 and use a dual canister to add advance at cruising, and retard timing under boost.
Its 1980-tech, but thats drawthrough turbo also 😉

I thought about that but it would cost as much as a black box and wouldn't have rev limiter or 2 step

Well crap. I thought my coil shit out on me the other day. Turns out its the points. So now do I replace them with pertronix even though there was talk of that causing problems with the black box?! I'd rather get away from points if possible.

Oooooh! CB is having a sale 'til Tuesday! 20% off. Guess this would be a good time to get my black box!

Is spark stealing the same as a 2 step?

hello nicolas,

With a device as a black box from CB,or a programmable 6AL,you always NEED to LOCK the distributor inside, otherwise it makes no sense to use a black box,the advance/retarding is all "controlled" by the unit,so it is eliminating any "mechanical" faults...If you were to run a 009 NOT LOCKED,with a black box, there's no way you can control the advance other then "locking the black box -not making any advance"...

That's the way it works.

Cheers Steve

Yeah. I'm going to order it tonight before the sale ends.
I was thinking about getting the Magnaspark but I have a mechanical fuel pump. I really should go to an electric pump but I hate the sound of them!
