Streetable combo?
«
on:
December 14, 2017, 12:12:07 pm »
Hey guys,
Just wanted some opinions from people running similar combos. Will it run cool enough to use regularly on the street in the Uk?
2332, MS230 Heads, JPM00208 cam, 11:1 comp, jenveys and dta management.
Thanks.

I think you'd be ok, just watch your oil temps and add cooling there until it's not running too hot.
With your engine mgmt you can dial in a map for pump gas or race gas with less timing for street.
Make sure you have a knock sensor in your setup.
Wicked heads! I'd like to know how well they cool compared to stock. My 044's were cross drilled to help increase cooling and that works well.

I’ve run my similar 2332 cc with as high as 10.7:1 CR.
MS230 heads, Raptor 06908 & 10009 cams, 98 RON pump petrol, IDAs, Wasp Stage 2, etc. Temperatures are similar to my stock 1500 cc. This is with an OEM 1975 FI doghouse cooling system with venturi ring. I attribute much of the cooling to the MS230 heads with their 10 fins.
I would think that your fuel injection would run even cooler than IDAs.

Hi,
I dont have a combo with jpm heads but maybe a good point.
I drive a 2332ccm, fk87, super flo heads, porsche cooling. When i changed from 48idf to 45jenvey fully sequentiell. Car starts running much cooler than with IDF. I dont have temp problems on the streat, maybe on very hot summer days.
Car is driven on german streets.
Cheers

Yes, but the close ratio gears make for high rev cruising, which gets a bit tiring after an hour or so
I just realized that the OP is in the UK, so assuming probably near sea level. I live at 1,070 m (3,500 ft) elevation which makes 10.7:1 CR run cooler.

No. Doghouse cooler only and Geers external oil filter.

I have same heads and 2387 with fk46 and 50mm jenvey t-4 oil cooler + small external cooler. Oil temps are always under 110 even if it´s over 30 degrees outside.

Thank you to all for the info. Sounds like I should be fine as long as I build it properly and pay attention to fitting the tinware. It will have an external thermostatic oil cooler also.
Martin S, I've not run with knock sensors before- where would you mount the pickups, I've read they can be frequency sensitive on the aircooled motor?
Cheers,
John.

I haven't run knock sensors myself, but my friend with a street Ghia and Type 4 turbo motor has.
At the end of the summer in 2017, I had a problem with a faulty CLT sensor and started talking to him again.
I will ask him more about his setup (he has electromotive same as me) and where he has the sensors mounted and post back with some info.
For my motor, he said I should add knock sensors and I think it is a good idea if it works.
Even if the sensors are not retarding the timing, the info would be good as I have trouble hearing the knocking over my motor.
And yes, I have heard air cooled motors have a lot of natural knocking going on and my motor feels like a jackhammer if you touch the block when it is idling.
But plenty of air-cooled Porsches have the sensors, so?

This is what Brian said:
Gm sensor
1987 grand national
I mounted it where the dizzy normally goes
You can pick anywhere solid close to the centerline of the crank
He's going to get back to me with the ECU settings (tec)
