Hi,

My friend is plannig a 2276cc unit. He's aiming at reliable engine without very big cam.

There are some parts already bought:

Case: Autolinea 94 bored opened for the stroker crank

Crank: 82 chevy journal

Rods: Scat H-beams
 
Heads: CB  044 MAGNUM PLUS with 42 x 37mm S/S valves, Dual Super Rev Springs, Chromoly Retainers, & Sure-Grip Locks (Mahle 94mm bore)

1.25:1 Rockers

Petronix flamethrower ignition

What would you dudes recomend for the rest of an engine?

Carbs, Exhaust, Cam (rather torque than hp)?

What do you think about that combo?

Depends on what his idea of torque is. Either a Engle 120, or if he wants even more bottom end a 110. A 110 is still good for almost 6500rpm if the heads can flow it, and it will make buckets of torque. Either way, 1 5/8" header and 45 Dellorto's would be my choice.

rebel, what is he putting it in? And what does he mean he wants torque? He doesn't want a high rpm only engine? Pretty much any 2276 street motor built with some common sense can make hp and enough torque to blow the tires off at the drop of the throttle. How long are the rods?
Is he putting it in a bus or something? If he's putting it in a Type 1, tell him to stop worrying about torque. 2300cc is made up of some big lungs out of a four cylinder. If he keeps duration under 300 with the stuff he has, he will be amazed how responsive the motor is. Even a 2276 with a Web 86C will rip the seat rails off the pan. I know, I did it, with 310 degrees duration. This cam ran from 3200 to 7700. Probably a bit much for your buddy,
You know which cam I would use? Same cam as me: Engle FK45. Pulls from 2400rpm to 6800rpm and I run it with 1.25 Scat rockers, in a shorter stroke motor. I can haze tires off in 2nd gear in a corner. Is that enough torque?  Wink

Jim:

1. He's puttig it into a 1303. (www.vwgarbus.com - unfortunatley it's in in one of the most difficult languages in the world Tongue)
2. Torquee in the meanig of: streetable, reliable, able to go for long trips ( from Warsaw to Chimay is quite a few km to go Smiley ) Able to compete on a strip, but not  frequenty. Strip would be said to much, cuz our local 'drag racing association' is not able to provide enough  traction for the fastest cars. 
3. rods are 5.500

I'm looking forward for other opinions also Smiley

If he has the option ,I'd lose the Chevy journals, and go with a VW journal. The crank will be much stronger in cross section. He doesn't need to worry about clearencing if he runs a Carrilo style rod, it will occupy about the same space as a 78 / stock rod combo.

Don't forget about the 86b.  Killer drivability, and will run a number easily.

I love the Engle 125 with 1.25'S. It's what I ran and everyone always comments on how well the car Idles and drives. It has a ton of power for the street and a nice powerband. The duration is a hair over 300 (301 ) and the lift with 1.25' is 524. You dont need tight gears to have fun with this combo. With some good cnc heads, 1 5/8 exhaust and 9:1 compression ration you will have a killer street motor that you can drive all over
