WTF was I thinking?
Yes dear, I can lay the hardwood walnut floor. Yes I can break out all the ceramic tile. Oh cement underneath...no biggie, I'll bust it out. Oh subfloor is fricking wavier than the ocean? No problem, I'll get it level. Oh, yeah HOW do I get the nails in once you get to the wall? Oh shit did I have a little rock stuck in my Vans and scratch the new wood floor? No prob, I'll sand it out and restain it.
Anybody have a rod kicked through the case, I can whip that crap out in my sleep. This house stuff sucks.

Houses.... are a capital pain! But not having the cash to farming it out is by far worse... This is what I did last year insted of finishing my looker... BATHROOM!! Wouldn't mind renovating the bathroom.. thats easy, building a new room within a old house... that's hard. But pretending it is engine work makes it easier Had a nasty feel/rattle in the engine ("soft" floor)  So I split the engine case (opening up the floor)  Crank was wasted (main structural wooden beam)  So I put in a forged crank (steel H beam). And new rods 1,5x8" (new underfloor)  Upgraded ventilation while I was in there (drain and insulation)  Finishing up the sheet metal (tilling)  So I can totally relate Jim! |

thats the way to do it jim - just get right in with both feet - hey i have done by bathroom, kitchen, yard, patio - and flooring - and yes much better to work on cars and engines than the house  |

Im not into that house work shit at all. Id rather spend my extra time working and making money and have a "professional" do it, rather than trying to save a dime doing it myself. Kudos to you guys who do dig into it though, its just not for me  |

thanks brother... I always say "yeah I can do it" and almost always I "can" but what a pain in the rear. Nothing ever just "fits" or "works".....the floor is so wavy, it really has impeded any progress. The bedroom for the baby has taken 3 weeks of on and off work at night and every weekend. Thank goodness for cold beer and Advil.
Mix some vicodin in there and you have a party! |

Count me in. Been working on this damn addition since 2006. No wonder I can't get a hot VW engine built!
Contractor did the addition, exterior, and mechanicals. I did the new windows, roof, and finishing the insides. Getting real close, actually...need to finish the floor in the back room, first floor and then I set up carpenter shop and get all the moulidings finished. Install the plumbing fixtures, and we're good to go. Then its back to the garage, where the truly important work lies.

This is funny, I just unloaded 57 boxes (about 1250 s.f.) of hardwood Oak laminate and then come on here and and the baby maker himself is doing the same.
