I recently had a chat with Walt at Competition Engineering, the company that first started out in Altadena, California doing Porsche machine work and grew into building engines for drag cars such as Bill Clarkson's Iguana.  They still do Porsche machining out in Lake Isabella, here in California.  He mentioned a drag beetle I hadn't heard of, called Friar Tuck, which was campaigned by Gary Breckenridge in (he thought) the very early 70's.  Anyone?  Russell, do you know any background on this car?  Anyone?  Bueller?

The guy standing on the far right; Larry Perez. A friend and fellow DEEK. Had a red early Type 1 with Porsche 356 chrome slotted wheels and nipple hubcaps. Back then, he worked for VW Gold Mine and gave me one of their license plate frames. |

If it was crashed back in the day then how did Russell see it up close? Something doesn't add up here. |
