Here's a driver and a (sort of) racer from back in the eighties
Hey Glenn,
What's the story on the burgundy convert will polished alloy wheels? That car looks very familiar...
I bought that car around 1981/2 ish. The car was a 60 convert and was restored by an older guy in Irvine. I first put the motor and trans from my KG into it, left it stock looking for a while. After about 4 months I lowered it, put in a 2180 SPG roller / 48 IDA motor. I lived in Orange at the time so you might have seen it around Camelot or Carls Jr. We also went to Whittier Blvd. That car was involved in A LOT of street racing. I had American 5 spokes on it for a while too, they came off of the ex John Lesley / Harvey Rosenthal bug.
Did you buy the car as seen in the photo? Reason I'm asking my cousin had a carbon copy of it. ( sold it about the same time ) same color and top and wheel combo. also ran a 48 IDA Motor /K8 cam, Steve Tim's heads..
Art, the car came with chromies, stock height, stock everything. I did the mods

I am still not sure about that. But, truth is you are probably right. I seem to remember back then another car... a bit lighter in color, a little shinier. You are probably right. Hey, I'm old..... this shit is hard to remember. I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

Where was this shot taken Scott, El Dorado park? Looks like he's parked next to a Deek LOL.
On topic, I think they make a very cool Cal-Look. I agree they look better with side trim. The tall doors need it to look in proportion*. A '67 is probably going to make the best, although the black one a few pics back looks awesome with the chromies/nipples and biscuit interior.
But, if you're on a budget, there's a lot more money to be spent on the
coachwork
, which leaves less for
HP
!.
*Little known secret. An old original member of DSK once had an early Convertible that was slated to be the ultimate Cal-Look convertible. That was when we were in ours twenty's and the plan was to section the tops of the doors and quarters to narrow and reduce their height so they looked more in proportion with the trim shaved. Well, the doors and quarters were cut to section out about an inch or so out of the top. The project lay in waiting for several years, things went on and ultimately it was never finished.

Yes, that's the SHUBEE car !!! I was talking to a guy this sunday & he reminded me that it
was formerly owned by a guy in a club in the South Bay - Torrance, Gardena, area. The club
name was Der California Kafers....this guy thought the owner before SHUBEE was named
DOUG he thought Last name UTTER??? had a brother, called the utter brothers.
anyone??
I was with Shubee the day he bought that vert. He got it with the alloys & the motor.
Later on he had EMPI 5 Spokes & then later BRM's !!!! " I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in here""

SIMPLY AMAZING !!!! I like what you do !!!!
...... The American 5's were nice with those
tires. AND yes that is my 67 with 14" alloys, and a very old shot of the 64...that was 76 / 77.
Bob Carmona had my Empi 5 spokes after I dissolved the car. I think he re-painted them, but
that was close to the same color. Man, what a collection of photo files you must have !!!!
By the way, cold HOEGAARDEN on me next time you are in CALI
