I have owned this car for 20 years now, but now it's time to move on.
The car is running on original Fuchs wheels 4,5" in front and deep 6" rear. Tires are Michelin 135/165. The brakes are Porsche 356B front and rear and they have dual bolt pattern 5/130 and 5/205. Spare wheel is an original 356B steel wheel with a Michelin 145.
Transmission is a 3,88 swing axle, built by Herrlander. 3d gear has a "closer" ration than the original 1303 boxes. Great for "pulling" in the street as you don't get the "lag" when you shift to 3d!
Engine is a 1776cc with CW crank, Engle W110 cam, ported 040 heads by Bee-Vee Racing and dual Dellorto DRLA40. It does run very nice!
The steering wheel is a c:a 1960 SAAB 750 GT 16"wooden steering wheel (or is it a slightly later SAAB Monte Carlo unit? Can a SAAB freak please help?). Shifter comes from a Porsche 356B and the rev counter is an early VDO unit mounted in a speaker/clock grille.
The electrical system is totally re-done and all cables are marked with numbers using the VW wiring diagram. The semaphores are fed with 7,2V using a well dimensioned voltage regulator.
The car was totally restored (pan-off, bare metal) to a cal-look state 1988-1994 using lots of NOS parts (doors, bumpers, lights, wiper arms etc.). Since then I have changed it a couple of times:
- New transmission 1999
- New interior 2000
- updated engine with ported heads and Dells 2001
- addition of Fuchs wheels 2004
The paint job still looks good after all these years, but off course it is no longer perfect.
The car runs great and is recently tested and approved by Svensk bilprovning. It is fully street legal with all modifications written in the papers.
This car was the "logo car" for the Swedish Cal-look history (known for the people surfing on VW sites in the late 90's). it has also been published on a 4-page feature in a british VW magazine early 2001.
Problems/defects: The hinge bracket for the engine lid needs to be welded. Small rust bubble on front hood.
Price: €9700, I prefer SWIFT payment to my bank. Checks not accepted. Car is in Stockholm, Sweden.
