you mean late, it has the vents at the rear pillar and big lights at the back. the late model beetle with riviera's could look good as well.

Oops, wrong car. I stand corrected. I was extremely tired after a long day of work when I saw that pic.

Carry on.

I think it was Bug In 30 , where some guy in a booth was chucking EMPI key fobs out into the crowd at the end of the day. I'm walking around, and this thing tags me in the head. I look down at my feet where they fell , and there are two EMPI key fobs in little sealed bags. I remember looking up and saying ,"Thank you , God!" out loud.

A friend of mine bought that vert back in the early eighties after the Bug In. I had just picked up my 60' vert around the same time

Even the vinyl top looks okay and fitting, maybe that's due to dechroming and the colour of that car.

Awesome photos, really like the colours&light in those.

Who's Al Martinez?  Cheesy

I was checking to see if I was in any of the pics as well Dean. Thank God I'm not! I didn't want to feel any older then I am.  Grin Grin  Good times though!

I can still remember where  Mike's chop was parked in that pic! I can also remember him taking out on the track and doing a little dry burnout and running 13 sec. 1/4 mile time.
Dyno can probably remember as well. He was up in the tower. OMG... Flashbacks!

Could be Al Jr.'s car. Sure looks like it. I can't remember if his Berg linkage was black or not. The rest of the car looks correct, though. That was was my favorite Oval window when I was a kid. Back in the days when no one vibed you for running a stock fuel pump with 48IDAs. GOOD STUFF!

I keep looking for my friends, cars, or me in the background of the pics. It's cool to see a different view/camera angle of Bug-In. Thanks for the pics, Jim.

God, i was just a 17 year old kid back then with a camera and no sleep. We had camped out in line after driving all day from San Francisco. We did not have many cars around SF like these. I got plenty of stories of buying vws from HIPPIES near haight/Ashbury i will right about sometime. I have many more pictures to post, will start a new thread.
