I think the fat lip wheels are the ones without the raised squares or the smooth spokes. Because some of the smooth spoked wheels have a wider rim edge. but do not quote me on that.

Actually Fat lips denote to the thicker style of rim. See how it is easily twice as wide?

I never cared for the reproduction Riveria wheels. But the early ones with the smooth spokes, I really like. Love to get a set on a '68-'69 Type 1 and powder coat 'em silver with the correct center caps.

Danny, the later ones like in your picture... weren't the centers natural in color with the lug holes and other lower areas painted black? Either way, your wheels look great.

yeah the fatlips are the ones dr jeckill is showing. it has nothing to do with the width off the rim. i have the ones without the raised bit on the spokes and they look a bit in between the ones with the square on the spokes and the fatlips. the spokes are a bit longer as the fatlips and therefore look a bit bigger. and even in those version there are differences. i have a set off 5 and there are 2 different ones compared to the 3 others. they are even a cm wider as the others and look to be made by a different company. the lip itself is also slightly different. but i never saw the ones danny is showing, the ones that have the square and still a small offset. they look very nice and very suitable for a type3 as well. but like Mark said the flatspokes look to me better as well.

I ripped that off of the the Samba, excellent source for weird pictures  Smiley

I don't know what is so weird about it? Although I have to admit it kind of looks as if the wheel is kaput, it is just the tire that is off.

HAHA!! Amen to THAT. That's the bizarre VW picture center of the Universe, for sure.

This is how I remember seeing the later wheels being painted. Sorry for not finding a real one. This is a reproduction. But the center was natural. Although I like how Danny changed that aspect of the wheels. Very different.

That's funny... the ad spells Riviera two different ways and also features two examples of the wheels... the original ones and the reproductions. Gotta love that site.

Hey Mark, I'm a fan of the earlies too, I used to run them on my '67 [see pic below]. I picked up another set and had them polished for my '69 project. Mounted a set of 145/185 Contis on them. I also picked up a set of billet center caps sold by ISP.

Jeffrey, that's one sweet lookin' car with those wheels. A combo rarely seen, these days.
