32 Funny Cars Returns!!!

Sorry...not VW but reminiscient of the old OCIR (Orange County International Raceway) events where the famed BUG-IN was also held. The old 32 Funny Car event held at OCIR has found a new home at FIREBIRD International Raceway Park, in Chandler, AZ.
Saturday night I had a chance to immerse one of my grandsons in the funny cars of yesterday...like the Dale Pulde's War Eagle, the Blue Max and othe nostalgia funny cars, for a night of nitro burning fun.
I clicked off some night shots and will post one I thought each of you motor heads would enjoy...even if not VW. My young 5 year old grandson is standing next to one of the crew members of the War Eagle as he airs the slicks.

Looks cool. Is this an all nostalgia event or are the blobs allowed in too?

Here is the one I took of the BLUE MAX. Sorry, the lighting was pretty dark and I was shocked the pix came out as good as they did without a tripod. This was Raymond Beadle's car. I am not familiar with the driver name on the shot you submitted.

Here is a night time shot I took with the WAR EAGLE doing a burnout. I clicked it off a little early...and missed out on more smoke.

Wish I'd been there! I remember being enthralled by the funny cars back in the 1970s and '80s – they actually looked like cars, not some aerodynamic blob or Kevlar. Must have been a great night, Rick!

Hey Keith...You could definitely see by the front grill and rear of the car what model they were. You're right...today's floppers are just a body (most the same) with the front end painted to look like a mustang, chevy, etc. It was a pretty cool night and brought back a lot of old memories of the 32 Funny Car days at OCIR.
