Hi Mags the answer to your question is You are right on the Money, the Rule of thumb is to  tie a string to the headlight mounting screw and the pull it tight to the bumper slot opening on early cars you use the top of bumper slot and on late cars you use to bottom of the slot once you make the measurements' on your fender then just find the center of the light and make your hole see the early and late pictures of the best way to measure them hope this helps your car is looking good  Thanks Gary

See you next weekend,

Mags, that could be the problem - each type of racing has it's own set of regulations. FIA oversees the MSA, which we run to in the UK, but the rules were adapted from the NHRA rules, which were written for big lumbering 3-ton American cars, not our little bugs. That's why we have to have the bigger footplates. We're also not allowed bolt together cages in drag racing, but I've been told that rally car cages have to be bolted together so that the specification of the bolts can be checked!

Does this only apply to licensed race cars or also Street Legal/RWYB classes?

Here you can find the FIA cage rules; (copy/paste the whole link)

http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.nsf/3B508127A498C9ABC12573A90051BFA3/$FILE/2009-DessinsDrag%20_10.11.08.pdf

And here are the complete drag racing rules from FIA;

http://www.fia.com/sport/Regulations/dragregs.html

Regarding the NHRA rules you need to buy their rule book but I find it a bit strange if the cage rules is different from the FIA rules. Agree?
