I thought I would start this topic on a car that is very special to me... Dave Wright's Dream Machine 1954 Chop Top. Dave Wright was the president of Keep on Buggin' for many years. The Dream Machine was not very well known, but nearly all who saw it / worked on it etc could not help but like it. Completed in 1978 or 1979 this car received little attention before it was sold to somebody on the eastern side of the U.S. never to be heard about again. I was fortunate to be involved with the build of the car at only 20 years old... I worked then at H&H Motors in Long Beach, CA... my first real job as a VW mechanic, and this car was the first "show" car I ever worked on. Good times... Fabs, maybe could you help a guy out with posting the article on this car in your "new" August 1979 Hot VW's... We'll see how the "Lounge" likes it. ~DR.

I thought that magazine looked familiar ! Beautiful car ! Back in the day BEFORE repro BRM's. I think he even "chopped" the semaphores ! I bet Kobus would love the license plate too. :-)

Fuckin A! That takes me back to H&H Motors , and the 70's!. All we need is that silly motorcycle cop that used to walk into the middle of the street to motion to pull over.

That's where I first met you Frenchy... at the Atlantic apartments. You had your Fiat back then and gave me a hot lap around the block in it. ~DR.

WOW! Full throttle time-warp. Thanks for postin' that, Fabian. Haven't seen that car in ages. What a bad-assed looking ride it was on the outside. Not too many choptops with semaphores. Two thumbs up.
Dig the K.O.B. plate, too.

That is my favorite chop top after Keith Goss chop top. I will have to give you a ride in my NSU when it is done to make it the full circle.
Thanks Frenchy

I love that car too. It holds some special memories for me too as that was the first issue of Hot VW`s I ever bought. I was 14 then and still have the magazine.

I swear that I saw that car at Bug-In circa '79 or '80 it was in or near the staging lanes if I recall. I loved that car chopped with semaphores. I also liked the magazine car "Low Red" another chopped oval from the same time period, although I only saw that one in a magazine. Andy
