Is it still possible to get parts for the old ZF differentials? My unit could really need new friction discs (clutches) and spring shims..

Hi Rune,
I hope you´re alright! Maybe you could ask at ZF directly or otherwise call Ulrich Eckstein (0049-40 530 488 30 / 0049-171 540 08 72)
Good luck!
Bye,
Tobi
P.S.: any progress with your engine?

Hi Tobi,
I have tried through ZF in Norway, and they are still looking into it. I have been in touch with another guy and he might have something.. If not I will try your guy.
No progress what so ever on the motor, I am stuck in a lazy winter mode

I was told years ago that the friction discs (clutches) and spring shims should fit from a BMW ZF lsd.
Not sure what BMW model, sorry.
Also know of a swede who tried to fab some of those parts, but I don't know if he ever got it all
figured out. I saw the very first prototypes i 2001 in his garage.

Hey Rune! Is that the unit you picked up in Phoenix last year? I remember the grin you had on your face with that thing in your hands while we were driving around the pits in the GTV
Good buy!

Hi there Zach. Yeah that's the one
The guy sold it to me as a used superdiff, and I paid used superdiff $ for it. Cheap.. Finally took it of the shelf and had a closer look at it, from the looks of things, it has had it's share of corner action over the years hehe..

Waste of time. About 5-6 years ago ZF of Germany stopped supporting anything older than 10 years old.

Not for Swing axle. There is no other diff that looks even close to a VW swing axle ZF.
Some BMW discs are identical to those in a VW
IRS
ZF. One is the discs from a BMW 2002. Some Alfa ZF discs are also the same. Don't know the model though.
What is the part number of the diff engraved on the outside? Starts with 4061 001 xxx

4061 001 010
8 bolt ring gear
8 through bolts without the 4 pins
bi-metalic bronze/steel discs, 6 on each side
Those type of discs are hard to find. I have never seen or heard of NOS ones.
How bad are the original ones?

Hm, bummer..Most of the discs on one side are shot.. Worn through the bronze.
I can e-mail you some pics later.
Looks like it might end up as an ornament on the shelf then..

Hey Rune, I had my ZF redone by a guy who works for ZF in Passau Bavaria Germany. He is the ZF LSD crack in Germany and was recommended to me by ZF. He makes spare parts, friction discs (laser cut I believe) and bolts and everything. He does old ZF LSDs for old Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos and others. He did mine at a reasonable price and it is like new now. He does it on the side and I do not want to name him in the forum. Send me an Email and I let you know his Name, Email and Phone Number.
Cheers Dominique

Hello, I'm from Portugal and I'm having problems in getting parts for my ZF LSD. Could you please send me a PM with the contact of that guy.
Thanks
