TLF 25 - a word of thanks
«

July 08, 2009, 09:34:38 am »
Before I get stuck into work, I just wanted to publicly thank a few people who have gone beyond the call of duty in 'forcing' me to get my ass in gear and finally get my '65 done for EBI #3!
Ben Lewis: 'Evil Ben', creator of the 'Slambox' Country Buggy and without doubt one of the most talented body and fabrication guys out there. Ben let me use his workshop as I beavered away to get the car done. His endless encouragement kept me going when I just wanted to walk away from it all...
Anthony at Autostyl: for similar encouragement and for painting my freshly shaved front wings and the engine tin at the eleventh hour. You are a very talented man!
Russell: for regular phone calls to see how I was getting on, and offering free transport back to the UK if it all went pear-shaped! Thanks buddy...
Deano: without Deano's insistence that we were going to drive my car to EBI, I may not even have started on three weeks of thrashing. Glad you enjoyed the trip. It was a blast!
DKP: The greatest club in the world and one of which I am proud to be a fully voted-in member. Everyone's encouragement kept me going, too...
Sarah: We've been back together for just three months after a four-and-a-half year hiatus, and in that short time I've been to the USA twice, and then spent three weeks in a workshop 27 miles away before heading to Belgium on a "boys' weekend"... I promise I'll make it up to you.
For the record, the round trip from my brother's house in Surrey to Chimay was 619 miles. The car was MOT'd on Monday (that meant doing a king-pin replacement at the last moment – not fun!), registered with DVLA on Tuesday and driven on Wednesday. 2332cc IDA motor with FK-10, aluminium case, Berg crank, Carillos, Denham heads, Berg five-speed, Quaife etc. Car averaged 23.8mpg (that's 19.1mpg US), which I think is damned good! Ran at 210 degrees on the autoroute. Only hassles were a disconnected alternator lead (tanks AA for fixing that oversight!) on the M20, a leaky trans breather (needs rerouting) and a racecar-style catchtank which needs replacing with a breather tower to save wasting so much oil. It's fast, loud and fun. What more can anyone want?

I saw the number plate in the pictures and thought it looked familiar! Then I thought it couldn't be KS's car - that would be off the road even longer than mine...
Looks good Keith, looking forward to seeing it in the flesh! You coming to Bug Jam? Or Shakey for August Bank Holiday?
See you soon!

Here are a few images from this past weekend. My ears are still ringing from listening to 619 miles of 43mm venturis doin' their thing. Amazing trip across three countries in a fast VW. But seeing the Underdog #2, Stutt Bee, and Lee Leighton's cars all running again, or being "reborn", thanks to Russell and crew, was something I thought would never happen again. EBI is one of a kind event. Thanks for the great ride KS! deano

Thanks guys. I am as happy as a pig in sh*t! There are some little niggles to be ironed out, but nothing serious. And the look on the face of the driver of the 2009 Beemer 6-series coupé last night was priceless as he tried to keep up with the '65 away from the lights... Ah yes, happy days are here again.

Nah, you're just kidding, that's Belgium. I'd recognize it any day. But it looks as if for Keith it could as well be Anaheim, seems as if he's looking straight at Chimay though, like at a needle in a haystack.

Excellent call! And ya beat me to it... well played, Sir.
Congrats on getting your car out there, Keith. Looks GREAT. Do like Sarge suggested... savour a Chimay or two... and enjoy the car.
