Title: What have you got planed this winter for your car ?
Post by: Black Sheep on October 18, 2009, 18:28:45 pm
OK so the season's nearly over , what's the plan for your car over the winter ?

Personally Im going to do a partial strip down consisting of , welding up my trim hole's , taking my doors to bits and re-skinning them  :o
going over the bodywork and tidying where necessary . cutting in some of Hooky's side access panels and a new lower fire wall section { 25hp bit don't fit too well to 2165  ::) }
Then Im hoping to finish things off inside with a carpet set I picked up at EBI , fit my door cards and back seat .
Going to go over the dash too , with a new panel " more gauge's " and line out my glove boxes .
Should keep me busy , plan is to have a near completed looking car by the spring , hope it don't get too cold  ;)

The season is over here in Norway and the mountains are covered with snow. My 67 is hanging in the air and my plans are;

- Fit some Vredestein Sprint classic 155/15 and 205/70 tires to some tired looking fuchs I recently bought.
- Narrow the front beam approx 2"
- Change the IDA and the MSD to a DTA S60 ECU
- Try to lower the rear just a little bit. Not happy with how the car handle
- Change the 2 Holley pumps to a Aeromotive A1000 and regulator
- Modify the tank
- Change fuel to E85
- Some minor interior work
- Some electricity work
- Open up the engine, change the cam and the lifters

If time allows it I will make a project thread.

To my 56:

AN fitting to the gas tank
Weld end plates to the front beam
Make good and finish install to the front end
Install all gauges

Then, if I have enought time....

Drop the engine
Remove gearbox
Clean up the underside at the rear
Clean up gearbox
Replace gearbox with new mounts etc
Re-install motor and possibly mount a turbo to see what happens  ;D

http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=583273 (http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=583273)

Engine wise:

Continue building (and finish) my little 1200cc motor for cruzing about Europe with.

To my 54:

Let Alex at Defcon3 finish working his magic :-) get it back home at somepoint and continue to build it up. (Instal my other motor etc)
Would be nice to get that running for next year.

Colour will be chestnut brown, polished centerlines, mendeola transmission and a N/A 2386. Hopefully I will make it to next year. Project thread? Maybe later … got a blog, but it's only in swedish. http://splitblitz.blogspot.com/

that would be my plan as well. i have the linelock light installed, but i never really understood the use of this light... you push the button the lock is on, no need for a light IMHO, but it would make a nice descrete shiftlight. i just might need one in the future. when i sort out some other bits and bops on the car this winter.

Totally agree... Just as useful as a parking brake light...

maybe somebody could start selling the "you don't have an engine in your car" light.. you know.. just in case.

Some nice heads - CB Ultra Mag plus.
Up the CR to 9.5:1
Its tempting to slip an FK89 in while I am at it  ;D

Then I had better start looking at mid-mounts and h/d engine and 'box mounts  ::)

I have one off those and it is on all the time now. really annoying as it means i can't drive the fastback.  :'(

no idea on what could work as a shiftlight. i was thinking about your average autometer thingy and just connect the small light to that. maybe Rool has allready an idea on that one.

Great work, Mike. It's amazing to see how your car has evolved over the years. Are those 8" wheels with 8.5" slicks? I hope you'll have it at Phoenix March 28th, love to see it :)

Hey Zach
Yep. 8" wide wheels, with 8.5x26 M&Hs

Unfortunately, we won't be doing Phoenix this year. We have a date conflict with our West Coast  Hot Rod Association series opener. The PRA series has lost some of it's allure for us, so we're only doing 3 of those events this year. We will be at Bug In in May, showing off the new CB Performance "Strip Dominator" heads. Maybe if you make the journey, we can catch up then

The season is over here in Norway and the mountains are covered with snow. My 67 is hanging in the air and my plans are;

- Fit some Vredestein Sprint classic 155/15 and 205/70 tires to some tired looking fuchs I recently bought.
- Narrow the front beam approx 2"
- Change the IDA and the MSD to a DTA S60 ECU
- Try to lower the rear just a little bit. Not happy with how the car handle
- Change the 2 Holley pumps to a Aeromotive A1000 and regulator
- Modify the tank
- Change fuel to E85
- Some minor interior work
- Some electricity work
- Open up the engine, change the cam and the lifters

If time allows it I will make a project thread.

Maybe if you make the journey, we can catch up then

Looks really good! Same size wheel & tire combo I have planned for my '67 :)
It's a shame about Phoenix/PRA, but I understand. Don't know if I'll be making it out for the Bug-In, but we'll see. Best of luck, take care!

My plan is to get this car driveable. Hopefully I can make some test runs during late summer 2010. Two months later then promised I got the body delivered from the paintshop, now I just have to find the time to finnish this! The car is a '51 split on a '62 pan. Mendeola transmission and Beetle Bugs old 2386. This is a project that I have collected parts for for many years, and now It starts to look really good. If you want to check more pics you can check out my project blog at http://splitblitz.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the positive feedback! The colour was supposed to be chestnut  brown but the painter had some problems to find the correct receipt. Anyway, live it's more like dark, dark brown. Pretty close to chestnut (99%), but when I use flashlight in my small garage it looks more red on the pics. Anyway, I am really happy with the colour and think it looks great!

Were starting to come out of the winter now thank goodness..

However we have left to do:
Remove the panels that need re-painting and take them over to Kustom 101 tomorrow
Re-fit engine once Richie has finished with it
Re-wire for new stuff  ;D

Hopefully ready to roll very soon.

Adele  :)

The season is over here in Norway and the mountains are covered with snow. My 67 is hanging in the air and my plans are;

- Fit some Vredestein Sprint classic 155/15 and 205/70 tires to some tired looking fuchs I recently bought.
- Narrow the front beam approx 2"
- Change the IDA and the MSD to a DTA S60 ECU
- Try to lower the rear just a little bit. Not happy with how the car handle
- Change the 2 Holley pumps to a Aeromotive A1000 and regulator
- Modify the tank
- Change fuel to E85
- Some minor interior work
- Some electricity work
- Open up the engine, change the cam and the lifters

If time allows it I will make a project thread.

My updates:
Karmann cab - nothing! Left it well alone while I try to sort out the DVLA...
The '68 beetle is now MOT'd, the semi-seized 36DRLAs have been swapped for some 40DRLAs and the 1600 has really woken up a bit! I'm not driving it in it's current state though - the orange gel coat front wings clash horribly with the dark red body, and the white gelcoat rear wings and decklid, blue bonnet and black valcances just add to the effect! :o I think a 20ft paint job is in order... ;)

My car is on the road again after 2 years so it was a good winter  ;D, it look like crap but I'm happy it's rolling again  ;)
I know it's not a callook but it was restored in the late 80ties so it's a bit vintage  8)
My karmann gonna be a real callooker I promise  :D.
